REMEMBER the man in charge of the swine flu epidemic for the WHO is Dr. Fukuda. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keiji_Fukuda

Now realize there is something in a name

Madoff was to finance as Dr Fuk-U-DA is to health

I wouldn’t trust anything from the WHO at this point, you just may be giving your life to a man who does not have your interest at heart. Just like people did with Madoff.

We were particularly looking for morbidity rates by age. If you happen to spot it, please give me a ping.

All I’ve seen is mostly anecdotal evidence that it is hitting the young disproportionately, and according to NZ, he heard contradictory anecdotes on local radio concerning the outbreak in Manitoba.

Ireland:

Five out of 19 in hospital for swine flu are young children

By Eilish O’Regan and Allison Bray
Saturday August 01 2009
http://www.independent.ie/national-news/five-out-of-19-in-hospital-for-swine-flu-are-young-children-1848875.html

FIVE of those hospitalised with swine flu are children under the age of five, a new report revealed yesterday.

The children were among the 19 people who have been hospitalised to date due to complications from the virus.

The latest report by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre shows that nine of the hospitalised patients were aged between 16 and 64 and two were over 65.

Two of the patients — including a Slovakian man in his 30s — remain in intensive care.

The report confirms that swine flu has so far hit young people hardest, with three-quarters of victims under the age of 30 and the average age being 23.

This is in line with international trends despite reports in other countries of older people now falling victim to the virus.

However, there was some good news yesterday after it emerged that a feared outbreak of 10 new cases among students at UCD had proved negative.

UCD also confirmed that only one of seven English language students staying at its Belfield campus who were diagnosed with swine flu remained in isolation.

The other six cases — all foreign students aged between 14 and 17 from Russia, Spain and Italy — were given the green light to leave voluntary quarantine yesterday after suffering mild symptoms.

They were among a group of 60 UCD students who recently presented with flu-like symptoms although 47 were initially cleared. The remaining 10 were tested for the virus but swabs yesterday proved negative.

The university, however, is bracing itself for an onslaught of new cases when classes resume in early September and some 20,000 students and 3,000 faculty and administrative staff return to the campus.

A spokesman said the university has been preparing for a surge of cases for several months and has convened a special swine flu advisory group that is developing a contingency plan that will be rolled out as needed, depending on how the outbreak progresses.

Absenteeism

“UCD has in place a comprehensive plan to prepare for the potential threat from swine flu to the health of students and staff and the operation of the university,” he said.

“As part of the plan, the UCD Swine Flu Advisory Group is also liaising with units across the university to ensure core services continue in the event of increased student and staff absenteeism due to influenza in the run up to the return of academic term,” he said.

“The university is working closely with the HSE on appropriate responses to new circumstances as they arise. It will maintain a flexible approach to the provision of services so changes can be made at short notice.

“As the situation evolves, the students and staff of the university will be kept informed by email and through the website.”

Meanwhile, the first laboratory confirmed cases show there was almost an equal distribution between the sexes — 110 females and 107 males. Outbreaks, where more than one person linked to others have been infected, have been few.

It is estimated that 13 outbreaks have occurred — involving two to six people infected at a time. Two of these were in a family and another was among travelling companions.

The disease watchdog has now added several hospitals as well as schools to its surveillance network to feed back information on swine flu cases in order to get a good picture of its spread.

Last week, there were around 1,500 people seeking advice from their GP for suspected swine flu symptoms.

I got the swing flu vaccination last time ( in the seventies) - before they pulled it because it caused paralysis in some people. Will that offer any protection?

What kind of protection, against the virus or adverse effects of the vaccine? I hope they'll have more evidence than antibody titers. There's a board for settling cases of adverse effects of the vaccines. A case was found for autism already.
