ATF worries about cartel grenades coming into US
AP ^ | Aug. 3, 2009 | JACQUES BILLEAUD (AP)

It was a scenario U.S. law enforcement had long feared: A fragmentation grenade from Mexico's bloody drug war tossed into a public place.

Only the grenade thrower's bumbling prevented bloodshed in a south Texas bar.....But the act was proof that one of the deadliest weapons in Mexico's drug battle is a real threat to the U.S.....

While Mexican drug violence has been spilling across the border in the form of kidnappings and killings, grenades are a particular worry because they can kill large numbers of people indiscriminately, and a weapon of choice among Mexican cartel members.

In Mexico, .... three alleged drug hit men threw several grenades into crowds of Independence Day revelers, killing eight people and wounding 106 others .....

The weapons are preferred by drug hitmen because they are cheap and easy to find. Many are left over from Central America's civil wars and sold on the black market to drug cartels. Some are brought in by weapons smugglers. Others are diverted from the region's militaries.....

And there is evidence that those grenades are making their way north..... all three grenades were manufactured at the same time and place, and were at one point together in the same batch from South Korea.

The Mexican military seized 165 grenades and 14 sticks of TNT belonging to the Gulf cartel in the November raid of a house in Reynosa, Mexico, a dozen miles south of McAllen, Texas.....

The grenades sold legally to help U.S. allies in the region are snatched by corrupt soldiers who get paid by former colleagues, then cover their tracks by altering paperwork.

Scott Stewart, a vice president for the global intelligence firm Stratfor..... said an even more daunting challenge in trying to prevent grenade smuggling into the United States is the porousness of the border.

Obviously these are grenades that were originally smuggled to Mexico from the US, along with all those guns, machine guns, and anti-aircraft weapons.

Maybe now BATFE will direct their efforts to where the real problems lie instead of harrassing innocent Americans with bulls**t charges. I do hope they understand that the fear they’ve generated over the decades is going to come back to them in the guise of lack of people that will be willing to talk to them for fear of prosecution... you reap what you sow guys and I fear that more innocent Americans will pay for it.

So the BATFE now supports a border fence?

Many of us talked about the terror threat from walk ins from Mexico long before Odumbo. Isn’t it obvious?

How it starts...a little here, a little there....But of course to do anything about it is racist.

Besides...More important things to worry about like Climate Change...Health Care....

It has to be the NRAs fault.

I think it's time for a crackdown by the Mexican authorities on south of the border grenade stores and grenade shows. Their 'grenade show loophole' is creating a pineapple river that flows north to kill innocent gringo children.

This is why the US cannot afford to enforce the borders.

The government is simply doing its best to reduce our overpopulation impact on the world.

Oh well Houston is under seige from the illegals (glorious Sanctuary city).
Now you can’t go anywhere without the fear of a fragment grenade. Round them up and kick them out.

“Obviously these are grenades that were originally smuggled to Mexico from the US, along with all those guns, machine guns, and anti-aircraft weapons.”

That’s what the gun grabbers and the open border proponents would have us believe. Actually, this article debunks that old theory.

Actually, the ATF is WAY more worried about individual gun ownership than it is about an issue such as this.

They’re also worried about these state sovereignty and firearms freedom laws and their eventual confrontation with citizens who are ready to meet them on an equal basis.

“...instead of harrassing innocent Americans with bulls**t charges...”

They are following the model used in the UK, a slowly tightening net of regulations, rules, and enforcement actions. When they get the number of legal owners and dealers down to where they are politically irrelevant they’ll drop the boom.

The left does not care about street crime or violence among the peasants as long as the leftist elite is safe. As for property crime, private property is evil anyhow (as long as the burglars stay out of the ruler’s castles, mansions, dachas, and gated communities).

Maybe we should’ve closed the border to drugs and illegal voters/workers.

said an even more daunting challenge in trying to prevent grenade smuggling into the United States is the porousness of the border.

Lets see, our government will wave through millions of illegals aliens, and 900 tons of dope every year, but will carefully pick out the grenades.

Since our government doesn’t give a damn about Mexican military incursions into the US, you can count on them taking it out on the citizens of this country to show “they care”.

north to kill innocent gringo children

There is no such thing as innocent gringo children. They're white, they're guilty. Depending on where they live, they are also foreign occupiers of Mexican lands.
