Russian Communist Party to protest U.S. stance on S.Ossetia

MOSCOW, August 3 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Communist Party will hold protests outside the U.S. embassy in Moscow on Friday to mark Georgia's attack on South Ossetia, Party leader Gennady Zyuganov said on Monday.

"We will hold protests in front of the U.S. embassy on [August] 7 in connection with the anniversary of the Georgian-South Ossetian conflict, or more precisely [Georgian President Mikheil] Saakashvili and his mercenaries' traitorous attack on a brotherly republic," Zyuganov said during a press conference in Moscow.

The head of the Communist Party's Moscow department, Vladimir Ulas, said the U.S. embassy was chosen for the protests because the United States had supported Georgia in the conflict.

"The American government unquestioningly stood behind Saakashvili, they armed him, they financed him, and they gave his regime political cover," Ulas said.

Last August, Georgian forces attacked South Ossetia in an attempt to bring it back under central control. Moscow recognized the independence of South Ossetia and another former Georgian republic, Abkhazia, after Russia and Georgia fought a five-day war last August. Most residents of both South Ossetia and Abkhazia have held Russian citizenship for several years.

South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity on Friday demanded Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili be tried as a war criminal for giving the order to attack Tskhinval.

Kokoity said South Ossetia had launched a criminal case against Saakashvili and others who had "organized the aggression" against the republic's citizens, adding that this is considered an international crime and should be punished.

Russian nuclear bombers in Cuba?
July 23, 2008

The media has been abuzz today at the prospect of Russian nuclear bombers being stationed in Cuba if the US goes ahead with plans for missile defense bases in Eastern Europe.

The story has riled the US enough that a US general has been wheeled out to tell the world’s press that any Russian attempt to build another nuclear base in Cuba would cross US “red line”.

The story broke earlier this week, when Russian newspaper Izvestia quoted an un-named source from within the Russian military. He told the Russian daily:

“While they are deploying the missile shield in Poland and the Czech Republic, our strategic bombers will already be landing in Cuba.”

The quote hasn’t been independently confirmed, but the Russian Defense Ministry added fuel to the fire when they refused to comment on the story.

The prospect of Russian nuclear forces being stationed in Cuba - which is, after all, only 90 miles from the US coast - would bring back some rather unpleasant memories for the US of the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, where the Soviet Union under Nikita Kruschev launched an audacious and foolhardy bid to station nuclear missiles on the Caribbean island.

LA GUAIRA, Venezuela – Russian warships arrived off Venezuela's coast Tuesday in a show of strength aimed at the United States as Moscow seeks to expand its influence in Latin America. Russia and the ChiComs have been holding joint war games every other year since 2005. The next one is scheduled for this summer...

[2009] Russia, China plan new joint military exercises

By MARTIN SIEFF, UPI Senior News Analyst
Published: March 26, 2009

WASHINGTON, March 26 (UPI) -- The continuing tensions over Russia's refusal to sell its state-of-the-art land warfare advanced weapons systems to China hasn't interrupted the rhythm of major joint military exercises between the two major land powers on the Eurasian landmass. The latest in the regular, biennial series of exercises between the two nations has been confirmed for this summer.

The next in the now well-established series of exercises called Peace Mission 2009 will be carried out in northeastern China, the Russian Defense Ministry announced March 18, according to a report carried by the RIA Novosti news agency.

The first bilateral Peace Mission maneuvers -- described at the time as counter-terrorism exercises -- were held in Russia and the eastern Chinese province of Shandong in August 2005. As we reported at that time, they were a lot bigger than mere counter-terrorism exercises. Warships, squadrons of combat aircraft and more than 10,000 troops were involved carrying out landings against hypothetically hostile shores. The maneuvers also involved large-scale paratroops drops. The scale and nature of those exercises suggested a trial run for a possible Chinese invasion of Taiwan with Russian support. ..."

Russia, China flex muscles in joint war games
August 17, 2007

CHEBARKUL, Russia (Reuters) - Russia and China staged their biggest joint exercises on Friday but denied this show of military prowess could lead to the formation of a counterweight to NATO.

"Today's exercises are another step towards strengthening the relations between our countries, a step towards strengthening international peace and security, and first and foremost, the security of our peoples," Putin said.

Fighter jets swooped overhead, commandos jumped from helicopters on to rooftops and the boom of artillery shells shook the firing range in Russia's Ural mountains as two of the largest armies in the world were put through their paces.

The exercises take place against a backdrop of mounting rivalry between the West, and Russia and China for influence over Central Asia, a strategic region that has huge oil, gas and mineral resources.

Russia's growing assertiveness is also causing jitters in the West. Putin announced at the firing range that Russia was resuming Soviet-era sorties by its strategic bomber aircraft near NATO airspace.

War Games: Russia, China Grow Alliance
September 23, 2005

In foreign policy it’s critical to “know thine enemy.” So American policymakers should be aware that Russia and China are inching closer to identifying a common enemy — the United States.

The two would-be superpowers held unprecedented joint military exercises Aug. 18-25. Soothingly named “Peace Mission 2005,” the drills took place on the Shandong peninsula on the Yellow Sea, and included nearly 10,000 troops. Russian long-range bombers, the army, navy, air force, marine, airborne and logistics units from both countries were also involved.

Moscow and Beijing claim the maneuvers were aimed at combating terrorism, extremism and separatism (the last a veiled reference to Taiwan), but it’s clear they were an attempt to counter-balance American military might.

Joint war games are a logical outcome of the Sino-Russian Friendship and Cooperation Treaty signed in 2001, and reflect the shared worldview and growing economic ties between the two Eastern Hemisphere giants."

The difference is that communists oppose US occupation of Kosovo, while they support Russian occupation in Georgia.

South Ossetia and Abkhazia were recognized as autonomous provinces at the time the CCCP fell, their populations being mainly ethnic Russian. The situations were entirely similar to that of Kosovo. If Kosovo isn't part of Serbia there's no way to call South Ossetia or Abkhazia part of Georgia and Russians made that fairly clear to NATO early on.

This was Milica Rakic: at three years of age when she was killed by a Clintonista/NATO bomb hundreds of kilometers from anything which anybody could even think of calling a legitimate military target, Milica likely has the dubious distinction of being Slick Clinton's youngest female victim. In fact the Orthodox church has declared her a martyr. That should send both Clintons, Madeline Albright, Wesley Clarke, and basically everybody who participated in that third Clinton dog-wagging episode into the history books. On the same page as the ****heads who burned Joan of Arc...

Ossetians and Abkhazians are not ethnically Russian. They are not even slavic. They are Russian citizens because they were all given citizenship en masse as part of fascist Russia's plan to annex Georgian land.

Georgia is an orthodox Christian nation and the Russian orthodox church recognizes Abkhazia and South Ossetia as part of the Georgian Orthodox jurisdiction. Satanic Russia pissed all over their own Christian religion by invading Georgia and murdering their orthodox Christian brothers. Evil Russia even sent jihadist muslim Chechens in the red army to massacre and exterminate Orthodox Christian Georgians.

If you stand with anti-Christian fascist Russia, the Russian Communist Party, and the inhuman svage Chechen monsters who prey on Christians, then you stand with the enemies of humanity and of Christ.

You have to keep in mind that Sockavillain attacked Ossetia; Western media make it sound like Ossetia attacked Georgia...

You make it sound like Ossetians were leftovers from the golden horde or some such. Near as I can tell from reading, they appear to be racially Caucasian, ethnically of Iranian and Scythian descent, they speak an Indo-European language, they've been where they are essentially forever, and they've been part of Russia one way or another since around 1801 at the latest.

Aside from that, given the history of the conflicts in the Balkans over the last 20 years, there is basically no way for anybody to trust American or NATO motives in any such conflict.

The Ossetians shelled Georgians villages before the Georgians attacked S. Ossetia, so the Ossetians did indeed attack Georgia first. They are traitors to Georgia. The Ossetians were on the Bolsheviks' side in 1921 and helped the Bolsheviks take over Georgia. Now they are on the Bolsheviks side again. Stalin was an Ossetian.

Vlad Putin was head of the renamed KGB and he laments the collapse of the EVIL EMPIRE. Putin's father was NKVD and his grandfather was Lenin's cook! Putin was fed Bolshevism along with his mother's milk!

Given the history of the genocidal Soviet Bolshevism Putin served all his life and has never denounced but has only defended, only a fool would ever trust the motives of such neo-soviet revanchists.

If you disapprove of what NATO did in Kosovo, then why do you approve of Russia doing the very same thing to Georgia? Isn't that hypocritical?
