Algiers tense after clashes with Chinese traders

by Abdellah Cheballah

Wed Aug 5, 10:02 pm ET

ALGIERS (AFP) – The streets of Algiers are deserted following clashes between Chinese and Algerian traders, but the tension is palpable despite comments by Beijing's envoy describing the unrest as an isolated incident.

"I thought I was going to die," said Abdelkrim Salaouda, sitting on a chair in front of his shop selling household electrical goods in the city's Bab Ezzouar quarter, 15 kilometres (nine miles) from the city centre.

According to Salaouda, the clashes broke out over a dispute on Monday afternoon between a Chinese man and a young Algerian who was accused of having parked his car near his shop.

His brother came to his aid, but around 50 Chinese men, armed with swords, knives and iron bars then set upon the Algerian traders in support of their compatriot, residents said.

"They drink alcohol in front of their shops and in full view of the Algerians and often parade about in shorts in the area. This sort of behaviour is against our religion and our culture," said Abdellah, another resident.

Chinese are doing the exact same thing migrant Muslims do in other countries; ignoring local laws and customs, imposing their own instead, and mob violence. The public atmosphere further improves for Algerian branch of Al Qaeda, which vowed to avenge Uighurs in Xinjiang.

The Chinese Empire is busy colonizing Africa, raping it of its minerals and other raw materials. It’s also a close ally of Kenya, so no telling what kind of politics are really going on. With no news outlets interested in reporting anything but entertainment news, we are hopelessly ignorant of world affairs. Maybe the chinese have the deranged one’s birth certificate, in this screwy world who knows what the truth is

I do know from business experience that the Chinese don’t have much of an opinion of Africans. This could get interesting...

They could secure a beachhead somewhere in Africa, and settle tens of millions of Chinese. Its population could expand from there, displacing locals.
What would anybody in the West do? Lots of complaining but little real actions, I suspect.

Wonder how many Chinese carry-out shops they have there, and still in one piece?

Won-tons, anyone?

Gotta beat camel dim-sum!

Yep, those natives tend to get a tad restless. I wonder what will happen when the Chinese overlords start confining the local populace to shanty towns and forcing apartheid on them. They already bring in about 70 per cent of the work force, and are unloading their nuclear waste toaster ovens and other crapola on the people there. The Chinese pay off the elite who are only too happy to make a big profit while they sell their country and its citizens down the river, sound familiar?

Worse, Africa has about 50 nations in the UN, soon to be Chinese

I've seen it with me own eyes. We could NEVER exploit blacks like that in the Western World. But,in Africa, anything goes...

The Chinese see an empty continent full of resources for the taking...Same thing with South America...

Have you traveled to the Caribbean lately. Its happening on a number of islands. They show up to build "free" public works projects for the local black government and then...they stay and make Chinese babies... Thousands of them... The intent is to out populate them and then take control... A billion people can do some pretty amazing stuff!

It has been my observation that, if you are black, the last place on earth you would want to live is China. To put it mildly, they don’t appreciate the nuance...

Yes, Castros's and Chavez's of Latin America do not realize the cost of inviting China into the region, because they are so fixated on shoving it to U.S. Chinese come, won't leave, their population will grow rapidly, and won't assimilate to local society. They will grow their own society which will eclipse the existing one someday.

Demographics has been the useful strategy of expansion by Chinese for a long time.

I have no special love for the Chinese, but Algeria has been a violence-wracked hellhole for at least 50 years. It’s an Arab and Berber country; definitely not black Africa. Natural resource exploitation is done by French companies with state connections who pay off the Algerian authorities.

Yep. They’ve been doing this for 6,000 years. They understand patience. These leftist governments are so corrupt that its a cake walk for the Chinese. The Han are an amazing people and they will likely win in the end...

I think China is the world’s best hope against Islam. They simply cannot tolerate any challenge to the Emperor (Communist Party).

I don't think Chinese would care much about the ethnic differences. I think they are all Africans for them.

Algeria has been in trouble domestically for a long time. They ended up exporting sizable share of it abroad. Now, troubles came to Algeria, in the form of Chinese migrants. Algeria is now in a bigger trouble. Especially when and if local Al Qaeda ally gets active using Xinjiang incident as a pretext.

Imagine the human cost of pushing such a strategy. It is great for rulers, but ordinary Chinese are merely treated as hundreds of millions of tiny pawns for the rulers.

People become just numbers. This has been going on even before Stalin and Hitler came of age.

Chinese history has been punctuated with recurring instance of huge population growth followed by mass die-out.
