Let's just cut to the chase here. Freepers are now accusing the military of turning their backs on the Constitution they have sworn to uphold and defend. Has Free Republic become the home to every kind of paranoid conspiracy theroist on the planet. Do you really believe the men and women who are currently defending your freedom with their lives are suddenly going to become boot jack fascists? Stop and think.

No, I don’t believe the military as a whole would do it. But, I believe the conditions can be created where portions of the military would do it, given time and the process of selection, transer, etc to ‘special units’.

Well said. I trust the military more than I trust certain other components of our government.

That’s kind of harsh.

What we are seeing here is plans being made to hold people against their will, by the military, apparently without due process of law.

We have a right to ask questions. We have an obligation to ask questions. We have a duty to try to preserve the rights and responsibilities of average J6P American.

And having seen the original ad, I can tell you it seems to be aimed at those of the younger crowd, high school students and recent grads. Like this whole thing was Gameboy or something.

There was a thread on military photos.net and I was surprised to read the posts of guys that identified themselves as military personnel. It was clear that they took the phrase 'threats foreign and domestic' very seriously, and had a gung-ho attitude toward 'taking out the domestic threat'.

Of course, blind faith that the government is the final arbiter of what is a threat to the Constitution was implicit. I would venture to say that it was inconceivable to these guys that they themselves might be the 'domestic threat' referred to in the Constitution.

If it ever happens, the troops won’t come from the military, they will be recruited from the street gangs.

“Do you really believe the men and women who are currently defending your freedom with their lives are suddenly going to become boot jack fascists? “

Do you really need real-world examples from our own history? Bonus Army, anyone? We have cops who do nasty things and enjoy doing them. Don’t even begin to try to say the military is pure as the wind driven snow.
