Rep. Kathy Castor issues response on town hall ruckus

Rep. Kathy Castor is responding to vocal critics of heath care reform after getting drowned out by boos at a town hall meeting in Ybor City Thursday night.

"Everyone is welcome, we need a healthy debate, but you cannot have a healthy debate on how to lower health care costs for families and help seniors and get kids to the pediatricians office when people are just going to get in your face and yell," she said.

Castor left soon after the meeting started and says the near riot is the latest example of dirty politics at town halls across the country. Castor says she believes most of the protesters in Tampa were brought in from out of town.

"The rude behavior distracts from the real issue here and that's health care," she said.

Thursday, hundreds of people packed into the Children's Board offices in Ybor City for the meeting sponsored by state Rep. Betty Reed and the Service Employees International Union.

Wow... just... wow. Are these people out of their collective minds? I was screaming when this wench was elected, and now we're starting to see that she drinks from the same KoolAid fountain as all the other Dems.

I am incensed by this woman and her behavior, but apparently the commentors on this article aren't. They're all spewing the ideological garbage we hear from Obambi and his ilk. I want to puke!

“... when people are just going to get in your face and yell,”

Isn’t that tactic right out of the Liberal playbook?

Wasn’t SHE the one who brought the union thugs, and who made sure that the front rows of the meeting were filled with her supporters, and wasn’t she the one who made sure most of the opponents were left outside? Kathy: Heat...kitchen.

Cantor should tell this to her God Obama. Didn't he say something about "getting in their faces" during the campaign? I guess it was okay for them to do it then but ordinary people can't do it now that Cantor's Messiah is in office? Lousy hypocrite...

“Everyone is welcome”, but good luck getting in, because we’re bringing SEIU and ACORN in through the back door.

So the “pack the hall with union supporters” tactic didn’t work?

If she is too much of a cowardly crook to face the People, than she is too much of a cowardly crook to be in Congress. And that goes for the other cowardly and corrupt politicians, Like Pelosi and Reid, and every other cowardly crooked politician that won’t face their detractors in a public forum. They aren’t fit to hold public office, and should be voted out ASAP, if not recalled first.

I have a friend, nice guy but Liberal by way of being politically disconnected. Even he said while we were out...My G*d if I hear one more politician use the phrase..”Working famlies”. He said that equates to in his mind some union slob in a wife beater t-shirt who smells like cigarettes and his last sausage and peppers sub, complaining about how he can’t afford health insurance after the truck payment, the quad payment, the weekends fishing out at Lake Lulu. We are all white collar guys who work I estimate harder than any line worker or government service employee. We work 60 hours a week for our families, never want a dime from the government and spend our non family spare time bettering ourselves not out pounding beers at the local wing joint bitching about our lousy monotonous jobs. Working families is a euphemism for vampire class, clock watching, slacker. You know the party guy in high school, who thought by his good looks and popularity would just have life given to him. Jack of Jack and Diane fame. We all said..well welcome the people who took the red pill.

the meeting sponsored by state Rep. Betty Reed and the Service Employees International Union.

The SEIU filled, as I understand it, about three-quarters of the hall. They were brought in early and through the back door. The plants were there courtesy of Castor and the SEIU.

An eyewitness to the event:

Just got home from the Tampa Town Hall meeting. I wanted to let you know first hand what went on since I know it won't be covered by the local media. When we arrived at 6pm(the advertised starting time) there was already a line to get in the meeting waiting outside. To our amazement the SEIU - union goons - had already packed the building with their people starting at 4:30pm. Out of the kindness of their hearts they did let in 20 people who were in line. Some of those 20 were for and against socialized healthcare. There was over 1,000 more people outside waiting to get in. Tampa Police Dept. was then posted in front of the doors to make sure that no one else got in. Once they closed the doors we assumed the position - "We Surround Them". We did remain cool, calm and collected with no actions of violence or disgrace. However, we did chant and let them know what our position was.

Once the floor was opened up for comment inside the meeting people who spoke out against the healthcare plan we "escorted" out of the meeting. Not by the police, but by the SEIU goons. I happened to be at the side door just when it opened up and a gentleman was pushed out of the meeting. Other anti-government healthcare people who did get inside ended up leaving stating that, "they just kept saying in there how this plan will benefit all their families and the unions and how it is good for America."

Folks, When you see the news reports tomorrow just remember...There was over 1,000 people outside who were opposing government run healthcare. I want to tell you that we must keep up the good fight and don't let our guard down. August is going to be a busy tea party month. The other side has decided that we "right-wing extremist" are not going away, so they have called in the Service Employees International Union. aka: goons

Yeah, right. You can't debate a foregone conclusion. The usurper in office dictated his so called Health Reform. Where was the debate in that?

we need a healthy debate

Her idea of a 'healthy' debate is us sitting still and quietly listening to what she's decided to do. She's supposed to represent her district in congress, but she is, in effect, a representative of congress to her district.

I was out of town and missed the event unfortunately, but from what I've seen of the video's, Castor seems to genuinely believe in the stuff she's trying to force on her constituents. That being the case, I don't think the protesting will change her position unless she can be made to feel vulnerable in her district. It is to that end that I'm looking to work.

The irony of their very own well-used tactics being used against them is delicious - absolutely delicious.

“Isn’t that tactic right out of the Liberal playbook?”

You know that is NOT true! You have to take that back!

Liberal protesters NEVER interrupt public political events. Your charge is outrageous!

And, it would NEVER happen that a Democrat member of Congress would foment vocal protests at formal political events (like the State of the Union).
