President warns of 'winds of war'
Herald Sun ^ | 11 August 2009

LEFTIST leaders from Venezuela and Ecuador thundered against a US military presence in Latin America today, warning the "winds of war" were blowing across the increasingly polarised continent.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez led the charge, attacking Colombia's decision to host American forces at seven of its bases, a move also condemned by Chavez's Ecuadoran counterpart and ally Rafael Correa during the inauguration of his second term.

Speaking in Quito, Ecuador, at a regional summit, Mr Chavez said he was fulfilling his "moral duty'' by telling fellow leaders that the "winds of war were beginning to blow,'' because of the July accord between Bogota and Washington.

"This could generate a war in South America,'' he told the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) meet in the Ecuadoran capital.

The heightened rhetoric came a day after Chavez accused Colombia's leader Alvaro Uribe and the Colombian military of "provocations'' by entering Venezuelan territory.

Colombia's foreign ministry denied the charge.

Moderate Latin American countries, led by Brazil and Argentina, agreed in Quito to hold a summit, probably in Argentina later this month, to discuss the deal that has angered many in the region.

Chavez needs a serious attitude adjustment.

Be careful, Chavez... China can win that war. They need the room and the resources. Someone would have to step in to keep you clowns from destroying the continent. America is broke and could care less. Europe is worthless...

Now would be Chavez's chance. Our president, though it's hard to tell, would most likely adopt some sort of anti-Truman Doctrine if war(s) started breaking out in South America.

Columbia will eat Chavez's lunch.
An unmotivated Marxist conscript army will get chewed up by the battle-tested (and US armed) Columbian army.
Chavez knows this - Columbia needs to call his bluff and Chavez slinks back with his (pointed) tail between his legs.

Baby Hugo has nothing to worry about. Zer0bonehead just loves coke-addicted mariconés, especially ones with accents. Well, that's what I heard... :-)

Chavez saw Bill Clinton shine attention on Kim and is rattling his cage for equal time.

It is a three year old’s tantrum.

The problem with communism and socialism is that they rely on an all powerful central government and inevitably an all powerful central figure. In theory, the decisions are supposed to come from the people (People’s Government) but they never do — the all powerful central figure makes unilateral decisions for the people. Some people around the world defend Chavez because they defend the pie in the sky ideology behind Communism but they are too blind to see that its implementation is always tyrannical against the people.

But...but...but...I thought our Dear Leader had extended a hand of friendship, love and unicorns to all! I thought the seas would heal and the rivers flow with milk and honey through streets paved with gold! Where does all this bad war talk come from? Maybe we have not been nice enough to this poor Mr. Chavez?

(HEAVY sarcasm off now).

0bama will cave, all US presence will be out of Columbia in 18 months, the drug lords will turn Columbia into a Spanish-speaking version of the Sopranos.

Like the Chinese Marxist conscript army in 1950 Korea got chewed up? Don't be over-confident.

"Chinese Marxist conscript army in 1950 Korea...."

Vastly overwhelming numbers can make up for a lot - Venezuala doesn't have that type of man-power avilable.
Columbia's combat units are constantly engaged in battles with FARC and drug-lords - they will not be push-overs for Chavez.
