[history]
PENSACOLA, Fla. (Aug. 14) -- Dr. Jason Newsom railed against burgers, french fries, fried chicken and sweet tea in his campaign to promote better eating in a part of the country known as the Redneck Riviera. He might still be leading the charge if he had only left the doughnuts alone.

America Dies on Dunkin' A slogan too far.
.....apologies to Cornelius Ryan and his book about Market Garden and the bridge at Remagen. Operation Market Garden in WWII was a bit too ambitious, and got a lot of people killed needlessly near the end of the war.

Food Nazi, indeed. That Food Nazi will more than likely be here long after the overeating, obesity and high cholesterol kills the rest of us.

Attacking sweet tea? He needs to move north. He’d probably fit right in in Madison WI or anywhere in New England.

I really wish someone would peg this as an “eating disorder” - the uncontrollable urge to tell other people what to eat.

BTW, if you’re looking for one of the great donut shops in America, it’s about two hours east of Pensacola in Ocean Springs, MS. It’s called Tato-Nut Donuts on Government Street. Wouldn’t pass muster with a certain doctor, but they have donuts that put Krispy Kreme and Dunkin’ to shame.

Our society has no effective means of dealing with these annoying fanatics. I suggest we amend the constitution to allow whipping. We could then tie these freaks face down on a cruciform block, place a carrot on a bed of lettuce before their eyes then administer 25 with a CAT-O-NINE TAILS”.

.....apologies to Cornelius Ryan and his book about Market Garden and the bridge at Remagen. Arnhem was the final city in Operation Market Garden. Remagen was a city further south inside Germany near where Belgium, Luxemburg and Germany come together. Its bridge was captured intact in March 1945 and stayed up for ten days of German attacks including artillery, bombers and V-2 missiles.

This is another one of those stories where it has more to do with freedom and individual responsibility than with food.
I recently had a minor battle with weight and cholesterol. I've succeeded in losing the weight and I'm half way to my cholesterol goal. It hasn't been easy. I didn't need any government. I just needed to stay away from some foods that I really love.
This is a story that EVERYONE on FR can and probably does deal with. We don't want government taxing Ice Cream or Pizza. That's what the Food Nazis want. We must all fight this battle as individuals. No one can fight this battle for us, we must do it alone.

The Doc stayed generic when he issued his warnings about those other things. His doughnut message was not so generic and you cannot attack local businesses by name.

I speak the truth to people and just assume that that my data and purpose are so real and true that everyone will see the value of what I'm doing," says Newsom, who now works at a prison, doing exams of inmates. A bit full of himself. Now I'm beginning to feel sorry for the inmates.
