In 1986, Paul Verhoeven was scouting locations for the 1987 epic, "Robocop".
Set in Detroit, he figured he'd scout that city for locations.
Detroit ended up being (I kid you not) too shitty to represent a decayed and dying Detroit.
He filmed in Dallas.
