Democrat rift threatens to doom Barack Obama's healthcare reforms
Times Online ^ | August 19, 2009 | Tim Reid

After weeks of fierce protests against his plans to reform the US healthcare system, President Obama faced revolt inside his own party yesterday amid accusations that he was surrendering to its vociferous opponents.

The powerful liberal wing on Capitol Hill threatened to withdraw support for Mr Obama’s healthcare legislation if it did not include a government-run insurance programme — something he has appeared willing to abandon in recent days to try to garner Republican support.

However, fiscally conservative Democrats appeared increasingly opposed to the “public option”, leaving Mr Obama with the potential for a dangerous split in the Democratic Party that could doom the legislation.

The eruption of such a fight among Democrats underscored the huge challenge Mr Obama faces in getting legislation passed. It is the centrepiece of his domestic agenda and an issue on which he has spent enormous political capital.

Yet despite his efforts, voters are increasingly opposed to the idea of reform amid concerns about its huge cost.

A rift inside the DemospLabRat camp.

Does this mean infighting over Obamacare?

Looks like they cannot get things right after all. The rats have inadvertently revealed one of their weaknesses that the GOP and general conservatives should exploit.

Anyway, this can mean a close victory for us, hindering Obama's advances.

Labor Warns Dems: We’ll Sit Out Election If You Oppose Public Plan

One of the country’s most prominent union officials is warning that big labor may pull its support from Democrats who don’t fight for a government-run insurance plan. ~snip

BY ALL MEANS, SIT OUT THE ELECTION! Children shouldn’t be allowed to vote in the first place.
This is a HuffPo article so I won’t post the link. It is showing up on Digg.

“The rats have inadvertently revealed one of their weaknesses that the GOP and general conservatives should exploit.”

Don't believe it for a SECOND!

This is more propaganda from the leftist to lull you and me into believing Yobamacare is over with.

Any story, by any leftist outlet stating anything about a “rift” in the dems is BS!!!

There might be a piece or two pulled form the current House Bill to fool the opposition into taking a break, but a House/Senate conference committee will put it all back and then some and pass it at 1:30am and then get out of town pronto come Sept.

Yep - Drudge has a story saying the Rats are going to “go it alone” on DeathCare. I bet the public is going to be real happy with that. ACORN better be full strength for the 2010 elections to deal with the backlash at the ballot box.

They ram it, they own it. Either way, their elective prospects for 2010 are looking dimmer and dimmer every day ....

That would destroy the party. They'd go the way of the Whigs.

That’s been a pretty common headline lately.

The only problem with that I see is ... the state run media has over a year to state this was a bipartisan bill or that the Repubs actually pushed it through.

Ask 10 voters in Oct. 2010 about the health care fiasco and 9 will give you the deer in the headlights look. It will all be forgotten by then.

The Democrats have failed to fully account for the costs of their "public option". As with anything financed at least in part with tax dollars you have to determine the assignable costs for the federal police, tax collectors, tax court personnel and judges, and the federal judiciary in general, plus the prison space when folks fail to pay taxes that would otherwise go to support the "public option".

Canada, which has at the national, provincial and local levels of government the highest tax collection and payment costs in the G-8 has never accounted for a single penney of tax system costs yet, if they did, they'd abandon their single-payer system in a second without a backward look.

It's a hollow threat anyway. Union members pretty much reflect the nation and they vote half for one party and half for the other.

No change in the outome is possible.

There's a limit to the deception they can successfully do. What you suggest goes way beyond that limit. And it won't be long before the state-run media totally discredits itself in the eyes of the public. They're "jumping the shark" now.

They have more than enough fault lines to exploit. If only the entire Party would unite and exploit.

They have overwhelming control of the House. The libs control all the leadership positions. They have fuilibuster proof control of the Senate. They have the most liberal elected official in US history in the White House. They control the media. Even so, they can’t get this thru. And somehow it’s the GOP’s fault.

They will have to time it so that Kenney can either vote or he is dead with a replacement.

There is no majority for ANY healthcare reform, given any time whatsoever to review it.

“...Kenney can either vote or he is dead with a replacement.”

Ahhh, can you see it now, the Kennedy memorial circus of circuses. The Wellstone memorial will be barley a blip compared to the “Liberal Lion's” passing.

Then, if the health care fiasco has not been passed by then, it will be rammed through as the Kennedy health care bill. And with sympathy votes from many Repubs.

I think that's exactly what is going to happen...Blue Dog Dems are Democrats first and foremost. They'll fold.

Just wait a bit. The goon squads will show up at the stubborn dems homes and have a ‘talk’ with them.

Indeed. The corporate MSM has seen its profits freefall as a result, and more are preferring to tune in to alternative media outlets for more of the truth they want to hear.
