WASHINGTON, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Former and current U.S. officials say a CIA report details the U.S. agencys threatened use of a drill and gun in the interrogation of an al-Qaida suspect.
The unidentified officials said the report, due for release to the public next week, details how captured al-Qaida commander Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri was threatened with a power drill and a gun by CIA interrogators in an attempt to procure information, The Washington Post said Saturday.
The anonymous officials said he gun and drill were not used on Nashiri but placed nearby in an attempt to instill fear in him.
The CIA inspector generals report, which was written in 2004, offers details regarding the federal agencys interrogation program, particularly those efforts used on Nashiri following his capture in November 2002.
The Post said three months before Nashiri was captured, then-Justice Department Office of Legal Counsel head Jay S. Bybee informed CIA officials that threats of imminent harm were legal as long as they did not expose prisoners to prolonged mental harm.

I have been more terrified having standard medical tests done on me, then any of these enhanced interigation tactics.
Didn’t the bad guys on “24” use the power drill trick once?
Then he didn't get tortured ... F#$% him.
For field expedient use, the manual kit is better.
And I thought I was only kidding when I posted this on another thread.
Good on them!
> Didnt the bad guys on 24 use the power drill trick once?
Could be. But I saw that trick used in a movie many years ago. “Death Before Dishonor” with Fred Dryer. (1987). IIRC it was the terrorists using the drill on the Marine Corp officer.
CIA guys have ALL the fun!
And you think, somehow, that they didn’t deserve it? They should be glad they’re alive to sweat about it.
Wake up. These people are our enemies.
Not being to bright, and from a backwards Islamic country where they've never seen a drill used for anything but torture- they just didn't realize the drill was being used for fixing the leg on the metal table in the room.
I am not against the use of what we have come to call enhanced interrigation teqniques...
First, we use fear...
a subject hears screaming from another room...
he may be cold, or thirsty, or hungry, or talk!!!
continue with hungry, thirsty is better... talk!!
Now, 24 hours of alone time... still thirsty...
ask and repeat!!
Evidently America has advanced beyond it’s first 170 years of pre 1960s hangups.
Dan, this is brutal.......
but nescessary!!
From an unnamed source, of course.
This is infuriating! It should have involved poison gas and acid!
The MSM is deliberately looking backwards at the Bush Admin (now months out of power) instead of reporting on all the abuses of power from the Obama Admin. That’s what this is all about. If you look at hard-copy for newspapers, I’d bet this story is page 1 whereas the story about the additional two trillion in the deficit is buried elsewhere, or was reported in the Saturday edition that hardly anyone reads.
I say release all the prisoners at Gitmo and give them plush jobs at the New York Times, Washington Post, the alphabet networks, and they’ll be right at home in their element.
There’s a reason al Qaeda never considered crashing an airliner into the NYT building in New York on 9/11, after all:
Why would they attack their ALLIES?!?!
“They said they would do scary things to me. It made me feel ad. Boo ho!”
“I made wee wee Mommy!”
