Time was, Baron Hill was best known for his jump shot and tenacious defense when he was starting at guard in the heartland of basketball mania, the Hoosier state. He was successful in parlaying that notoriety, a good persona and Blue Dog political philosophy into a multi-term stint in the Congress, representing his home district, the 9th....
Hill lost his seat 5 years ago to a conservative patriot named Mike Sodrel, a truck driver-turned transportation magnate, but got his seat back the next election (2006). And something happened in the interim. Gone were the old Midwestern values and all that plain talk, replaced with a remarkable and unmistakable ugly streak of wacko liberalism that has resulted in actions by the old point guard that put him closer to Karl Marx than to any Hoosier.

I really don’t see him keeping his seat. He ran so far to the right last time to get elected. This won’t play well in this heavily contested district. Formally, part of the bloody 8th.
Any idea who his opponent might be?
hh
He sold out his coal country district for cap and trade?
He’d better run for the hills, not for re-election.
If i get pissed enough, I will be. lol
To Freepers who don’t know, the writer of this piece, Greg Garrison is the guy who successfully prosecuted Mike Tyson here in Indy. He ran circles around Tyson’s legal “dream team”
He has a weekday morning talk show on WIBC 93.1FM and is fun to listen to.
Another thing that gets me, is that the NRA backed Baron Hill over Sodrel. And I am a life member of the NRA.
It’s good to see Mr. Garrison published in Human Events.
They must have been looking for a few token Democrats to support. It makes no sense though. Sodrel was a solid conservative, Hill was a phony.
The NRA has a single issue mentality. I wish they would broaden their outlook.
ping for your list
They always back an incumbent who is perceived to be pro-2nd amendment, even if the incumbent is a lib. This is foolishness. The real 2nd amendment issues are decided by judicial appointments, and a dem (even a so-called blue dog) will always vote for the lib gun-grabbing judges. The NRA gets played for suckers by these wolves in sheep's clothing.
It's just like Harry Reid supposedly being "pro-life". If he is pro-life, why does he vote FOR abortion loving lib judges while voting against "conservative" judges?
Worked my tail off the last time we got him out*. Because of other responsibilities can't do that this time.
Since he's lost the support of his district, he's also lost their financial support and must rely on the left to fund his campaigns....that's the reason for the turn.
*Hill is smooth. Had copies of the letters he wrote agreeing with position and a list of votes in House which were just the opposite.
Even on this single issue, Barron Hill was no winner. GOA gave him a D- and he voted with Brady 36% of the time. Hill was not a complete gun grabber, but had a much worse record than Sodrell.
WIBC is now on FM? Who’s on the 1070 freq?
While canvassing the neighborhood, when Mike beat him I stopped at a house of a little gray haired lady out mowing her lawn.....When I told her I was working against Hill, she told me she had been a neighbor and let go with a streak against him that made “Blazing Saddles” look “G”. Needless to say she had his number...It would have been a great commercial if every other word wouldn't have to be bleeped.
all sports channel
“The Fan” or something like that
This little problem has been my problem with the NRA for years. I don’t get it now, and frankly Scarlett, I ain’t never gonna get it. Which is why I am solid GOA, JPFO, and shaky, on again off again NRA. I don’t know who pulls the strings, but they leave much to be desired.
Maybe like you mention, they are attempting to play both ways, and keep dems in the second amendment camp. Considering some of the dangerous life threatening causes of the left, I’m not so sure that idea has any merit, but it certainly must come up in board meetings.
No kidding? I realize that AM is nowhere these days, but with that 50k signal, and the right talk hosts, it should have remained dominant.
Sid Collins, Fred Heckman and Jim Shelton must be sad(ly rolling in their graves), not to mention Harry Andrews.
Never can remember the FM number....We listen when we go to the city....What is it?
