Susan Estrich Writes Surprisingly Frank Remembrance of Ted Kennedy
NewsBusters ^ | August 27, 2009 | P.J. Gladnick

Susan Estrich worked for a number of years on the staff of Senator Ted Kennedy. Of course, she has some warm memories about working for him. However, in contrast to the almost uncritical lionization of Kennedy by such outlets as the Associated Press and the Los Angeles Times as well as by Evan Thomas of Newsweek, Estrich was able to look at her former boss, warts and all, in a surprisingly frank remembrance in her column. She did not attempt to bury his faults as you can see in this critique of his speaking style:

The first time I wrote "talking points" for him, for a floor statement on something 30 years ago next week, I hid in the back of the Senate gallery as he mumbled his way through it, adding "uhs" instead of verbs. I saw what America did in November of that year, in that famous Roger Mudd interview, which sounded like my floor speech.

Read the entire article. You can count Susan Estrich as NOT being among the ranks of liberals who are calling for the passage of ObamaCare as some sort of tribute to Ted Kennedy since she is highly critical of it.

Susan Estrich is still angry over Kennedy’s Obama endorsement. She’s still wishing for Hillary.

She is still angry? She is still wishing?

I wish I could read hearts and minds....

Odds are, she is just being honest about him - as much as a liberal can concerning another liberal.

---The idea that somehow you're going to tax the "rich" enough to pay for quality health care for every American who doesn't have it, can't afford it or stands to lose it, not to mention for all of the undocumented aliens who receive it for free now and presumably will continue to in Obama health land, is almost laughable. It's one of those things candidates say in campaigns, ignoring the fact that it doesn't add up. But in a bill that might pass? Add a 5 percent surtax on every small business in the country that makes $250,000 or more? This is going to create jobs? What am I missing?--

--Susan is obviously smarter than she sounds---

Whatever. I certainly agree that Hilary would be a lot better than what we have.

People are funny and will say and claim support for things they really don't mean, as is the case during campaigns with politicians and voters alike.

But have you noticed how truly feeling threatened has a way of clearing one's head of foolish egalitarian and Utopian fantasies, enabling one to see reality more clearly.

I am sure she has. Susan is also a feminist and there is only so much lionizing of a womanizer a feminist can stomach.

I suspect many libs know what they’re peddling is a scam. The lust for power propels them onward. Who was that liberal senator from Oregon who got caught messing around with women? He admitted after it was all over he didn’t believe the liberal myths he spread during his career.

Estrich is one of my favorite liberals precisely because she is one of the few who is consistently honest and can make logical arguments.

What flavor cool-aid you been drinking? Estrich was and still is a devout Clinton apologist. Her opinions are rooted in the 'liberals can do no wrong, conservatives can do no right' philosophy.

From the few times I have seen Susan Estrich in interviews etc., I have gotten the impression that she is more honest than most other liberals. Whenever I notice a liberal who speaks honestly in opposition to the established thinking of his fellow liberals, it’s memorable to me, because it’s not very common. Alan Dershowitz, Joe Liebermann and Camille Paglia (who also has somewhat of a libertarian streak) are other examples of prominent liberals who seem to be mostly honest in what they say. Even though I disagree with their political philosophy, it is still very refreshing to see that there are at least some liberals who are more inclined to follow their consciences than to follow the crowd.

Picking your favorite liberal is like picking your favorite type of poop. Estrich is like a nice, dry cow pattie. You can safely pick it up with your bare hands and it burns with minimal odor. Most liberals are like a pile of fresh dog poo . . . you don’t even want to get near it without a long-handled shovel.
