Email from Mel Martinez

Thank you for contacting me regarding the healthcare reform proposals currently being considered by Congress. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue.

Few proposals before Congress are as important or controversial as healthcare reform. Currently, healthcare spending accounts for 17 percent of the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP), and it is estimated that these costs will rise to 25 percent by 2025. Clearly, Congress needs to find a way to contain healthcare costs. However, in doing so, we need to make sure we do not create more problems. The United States has one of the best, most advanced healthcare systems in the world in terms of both quality and access to care. We need to make sure that any reforms that are approved preserve both the quality of care and our access to it.

I am very concerned about the healthcare proposals that have been approved by the House of Representatives and the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. If these bills come before the Senate in their current form, I will oppose them and work for their defeat. These proposals are very complex and expensive, and I believe that we need to fully review all of the provisions and their consequences before rushing to approve a bill. The stimulus legislation, which spent close to a trillion dollars in borrowed money, was rushed through Congress with almost no oversight or debate. Healthcare reform is far too important to be rushed through in a similarly reckless manner.

The cost of this legislation is another issue of concern to me. Members of both parties agree that our country is running unsustainable deficits, and we need to begin paying down our debts. President Obama has stated repeatedly that any attempt to reform healthcare must control costs. However, the bills currently being considered would cost over one trillion dollars and do very little to limit the increase in healthcare expenditures. Recently, the Director of the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) testified before Congress that the bills being considered could actually increase healthcare costs. In his testimony, he stated: “In the legislation…we do not see the fundamental changes that would be necessary to reduce the trajectory of federal health spending by a significant amount, and, on the contrary, the legislation significantly expands the federal responsibility for healthcare costs.” He estimated that the current proposal would lead to a net increase in the federal budget deficit of $239 billion over the 2010-2019 period. The CBO also forecast that the proposals would lead to significant deficits outside of the 10-year budget window. Such a massive increase in federal debt would harm our country and reduce our ability to address other pressing national issues.

Ultimately, I will not support legislation that fails to protect the Medicare program or places a government bureaucrat between a patient and their doctor when making medical decisions. We have one of the best healthcare systems in the world, and we do not need to destroy it to contain costs. Currently, the Medicare and Medicaid programs are losing $60 billion per year to fraud. We can fix this, save money, and improve the long-term sustainability of these programs. Similarly, we can restrain the growth in healthcare costs by allowing interstate competition in the health insurance market, enacting meaningful tort reform, providing tax parity for individuals who purchase their own health insurance, and allowing small businesses to pool their employees to purchase more affordable health insurance. These are just a few examples of good and constructive options for healthcare reform that preserve the quality and accessibility of care while containing costs. Unfortunately, the bills currently being considered do not include these proposals.

Again, I appreciate you contacting me regarding this important issue. I look forward to a thorough review and debate of these proposals. However, if significant changes to the current bills are not made, I will work to defeat them. If you have additional questions or comments, please contact me. Here are a few of the shocking health controls per the Chosen One: Obama:
  1. Pg 425 Lines 17-19 Government will instruct & consult regarding living wills, durable powers of atty. Mandatory! He will control your living wills

  2. Pg 30 Sec 123 of HC bill - THERE WILL BE A GOVT COMMITTEE that decides what treatments/benefits you get (Unions are EXEMPTED)

  3. Pg 42 of HC Bill - The Health Choices Commissioner will choose your HC Benefits for you. You have no choice! Government, not you, will decide what health care you are allowed.

  4. PG 50 Section 152 in HC bill - HC will be provided to ALL non US citizens, illegal or otherwise Obama wants illegal aliens covered, with YOU paying

  5. Pg 170 Lines 1-3 HC Bill Any NONRESIDENT Alien is exempt from individual taxes. (Only Americans will pay) Illegal aliens get health care FREE.

  6. Pg 241 Line 6-8 HC Bill - Doctors, doesn't matter what specialty you have, you'll all be paid the same Government gets to set pay rates-this guarantees fewer specialized doctors, mandating a lower quality of care.

  7. PG 272 SEC. 1145. TREATMENT OF CERTAIN CANCER HOSPITALS - Cancer patients - welcome to rationing! City of Hope and other cancer hospitals controlled by government--very young and elderly, due to other parts of Obamacare, will be forced to die since they will not be allowed health care.

  8. They will teach you to die. PG 425 Lines 4-12 Government mandates Advance Care Planning Consult. Think Senior Citizens and end of life.

  9. They will stop assistance to special needs children. Pg 354 Sec 1177 - Government will RESTRICT enrollment of Special needs people!
What type of society in the past operated like this--killing the young, the elderly, and the special needs? This is not health care; it is Obama's version of "A Heath Scare".

"Government has laid its hand on health, housing, farming, industry, commerce, education, and to an ever-increasing degree interferes with the people's right to know. Government tends to grow, government programs take on weight and momentum as public servants say, always with the best of intentions. But the truth is that outside of its legitimate function, government does nothing as well or economically as the private sector of the economy." - President Ronald Reagan

Lagging in the poles and losing support Obama has called for Obamites in local communities to lobby for Socialized and Rationed Health Care.

Obama believes that home is where the radically liberal administration of Barack Hussein Obama is strongest. But Americans do not agree with him or socialized healthcare and the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll shows that not only are Obama's disapproval ratings soaring but support for his health care plan is now less than 46 percent, a new low.

He claims that our grass roots effort to inform all Americans of the true cost of his plan are full of those who profit from the status quo, or see this debate as a political game, and they will stop at nothing to block reform. Obama is not addressing the bold face lies of his plan documented by FactCheck.org and instead says you are filling the airwaves and the internet with outrageous falsehoods to scare people into opposing change.

Obama is very nervous that our campaign of truth about the health care is working. He claims that some people, not surprisingly, are getting pretty nervous, as well they should. So Obama says he wants his socialist movement to "get out there, fight lies with truth, and set the record straight."

Folks that is what AmeriPAC has been doing all along setting the record strait. We believe you are entitled to know everything in this bill and how much you stand to lose and how much it will cost you.

Be sure you counter Party Obamites, tell everyone the truth about this bad bill, and make certain your members of Congress know that you're counting on them to act and STOP THIS BILL.

Hey Mel, why don’t you and your Capitol Hill scumball sociopath buddies fix what you’ve already broken before you start breaking something more.

How about just leaving well enough alone, just get rid of the parasitic illegal alien peasants who are sucking up America’s very generous social services.

Then take a VERY long vacation because we don’t want you and your Congressional diretbag pals breaking anything else in America for the next decade or two.

Top GOP Senators Hold Health Care Forum In Hialeah

HIALEAH (CBS4) ― Outgoing U.S. Senator Mel Martinez, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and former GOP presidential candidate Senator John McCain will host a health care forum on Tuesday at Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah. The forum is not open to the general public unlike the Democratic town halls held in recent months that have sometimes descended into shouting matches.

The health care issue has become the single hottest topic in politics since the August recess began a few weeks ago. Countless town halls have seen people voicing opposition to any form of a public option with health care reform. Some protesters have carried guns; called Obama a socialist or communist, called him a fascist, and even compared him to Adolf Hitler.

According to estimates from the White House and the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, the nation can't continue on the current path with regards to health care costs, which both Republicans and Democrats agree on.

The question comes in on how to change the system. Democrats have been championing a public option that would give everyone the option to buy into a system like most civil service workers already have. Republicans have countered saying things such as tort reform will help solve a large part of the health care crisis.

Some of the rhetoric from the extreme fringes of the GOP have turned incredibly ugly in recent weeks. Last week, CNN reported on a pastor in Arizona named Steven Anderson who openly prayed in his church that Obama should die and go to hell. The preacher upped the ante over the weekend and said that he hopes, "I hope that God strikes Obama with brain cancer so he can die like Ted Kennedy."

Democratic groups plan to protest outside the meeting in Hialeah.
