Blue Dog: Town halls convinced me to oppose public option

Did the August town hall protests have an effect on Congress? Enough so that at least one Blue Dog Democrat admitted it convinced him to oppose the public option in the health-care overhaul bill. Rep. Mike Ross (D-AR) announced his opposition this morning, crediting his constituents for his moment of clarification:

Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark.), the Blue Dog congressman who battled with Democratic Party leaders for much of July before reaching an agreement on health-care reform legislation, said Tuesday that he could no longer back the government-insurance option included in the bill he voted for before the congressional recess.

“I have been skeptical about the public health insurance option from the beginning and used August to get feedback from you, my constituents,” he wrote in a statement his office released publicly. “An overwhelming number of you oppose a government-run health insurance option, and it is your feedback that has led me to oppose the public option as well.”

Robot Bartender

A man walked into a very high-tech bar. As he sat down on a stool he noticed that the bartender was a robot. The robot clicked to attention and asked, "Sir, what will you have?"

The man thought a moment then replied, "A martini please." The robot clicked a couple of times and mixed the best martini the man had ever had.

The robot then asked, "Sir, what is your IQ?"

The man answered "oh, about 164."

The robot then proceeded to discuss the 'theory of relativity', 'inter-steller space travel', 'the latest medical break throughs', etc.......

The man was most impressed. He left the bar but thought he would try a different tact. He returned and took a seat. Again the robot clicked and asked what he would have? "A Martini please."

Again it was superb. The robot again asked "what is your IQ sir?"

This time the man answered, "Oh about 100". So the robot started discussing Nascar racing, the latest basketball scores, and what to expect the Dodgers to do this weekend.

The guy had to try it one more time. So he left, returned and took a stool.... Again a martini, and the question, "What is your IQ?"??

This time the man drawled out "Uh..... bout 50". The robot clicked then leaned close and very slowly asked,

"A-r-e

y-o-u-r

p-e-o-p-l-e

h-a-p-p-y

w-i-t-h

O-B-A-M-A???

Just how do you “take back” a vote that has already been cast on a Bill that has already passed the House and is awaiting the Senate to take it up??? I call shenanigans.

They should not be needing the “town halls” to be convinced.

CONGRESSMEN should be convincing US. THEY should know the destruction taxes cause beter than

Just, what do these clowns do all day? Their hair?

It’s not an OPTION at all.

It’s single payer - what they wanted all along.

They want the power to deny you medical care if you don’t obey them.

LOL! Now what if the robot asked what political party the customer belonged to?

If, GOP, then “You gotta love those guys on Wall Street! I heard Goldman Sachs made a billion yesterday. Yep, what a great country, and I wonder if we are going to have a capital gains tax cut this year. And you know, if it wasn’t for minimum wages being so high and having wage and hour laws, I wouldn’t be a robot, I’d be a human being. And, can you believe what all the poor folks are doing to our country?

parsy, who could have been a whole lot more sarcastic

I don’t want Rep. Ross to oppose the public option, I want him to oppose the entire @#$#%& bill! Or as one townhall participant told his representative, “If you insist on cramming this healthcare bill down the voters throats, The voters will make sure to cram it up your @$$ come election time!”

The bill was approved in committee, but HR3200 has not been voted on by the House.

"...as one townhall participant told his representative, “If you insist on cramming this healthcare bill down the voters throats, The voters will make sure to cram it up your @$$ come election time!”

That's the general sentiment out here, no doubt about it. What should've been better expressed was the danger this bill presents to every Democrat in both houses of Congress, not just the ones who vote for it.

For some reason I thought it had passed the full House. Should’ve looked it up on govtrack first.
