Obama sent me an email

XXXXX,

I just finished laying out my plan for health reform at a joint session of Congress. Now, I'm writing directly to you because what happens next is critical -- and I need your help.

Change this big will not happen because I ask for it. It can only come when the nation demands it. Congress knows where I stand. Now they need to hear from you.

Add your voice: Ask your representatives to support my plan for real health reform in 2009.

The heart of my plan is simple: bring stability and security to Americans who already have health insurance, guarantee affordable coverage for those who don't, and rein in the cost of health care.

Tonight, I offered a specific plan for how to make it happen. I incorporated the best ideas from Democrats and Republicans to create a plan that's bold, practical, and represents the broad consensus of the American people.

We've come closer to real health reform in the last few months than we have in the last 60 years. But those who profit from the status quo -- and those who put partisan advantage above all else -- will fight us every inch of the way.

We do not seek that fight, but we will not shrink from it. The stakes are too high to let scare tactics cloud the debate, or to allow partisan bickering to block the path. Your voice, right now, is essential.

See my full plan and call on your representatives to support it:

Ours is not the first generation to understand the dire need for health reform. And I am not the first president to take up this cause, but I am determined to be the last.

Thank you,

President Barack Obama

I got it too. Residual effects of the “Flag” issue.
I responded, as I always do, with a large font “F&*^ You”.
For some reason, it always makes me feel better.

“bring stability and security to Americans who already have health insurance”

In other words, we’re going to force you to move to a public option.

Article 1 Section 8 lists all powers granted to Congress by the Constitution. Regulating federal health care is not expressly written in Article 1 Section 8. Therefore Federal health care is unconstitutional.

” I incorporated the best ideas from Democrats and Republicans to create a plan that’s bold, practical, and represents the broad consensus of the American people “

“YOU LIE!!”

(I counted at least three lies in this one sentence..)

My concern, in the run-up to this speech, was that he might offer some kind of conciliation or compromise that would have the effect of ‘pulling the teeth’ of the 9/12 movement..

I needn’t have worried — his message remained, ‘We’re not listening to you - we’re going to continue to call you liars and evildoers.’

Fair enough....

You see, it is a clever tactic.

The reps. came home and got an earful at the town-halls. Little support turn out was present.

Now they are back in big, insulated DC. And the minions will send the emails supporting a public medical travesty. It is easy just point and click.

Suddenly the rotten tomatoes turn to bright shiny apples. The opposition is forgotten. The call outs are dismissed and those whackos at home are suddenly just ghosts of a crummy August vacation.

This is why the March on 9/12 is so important.

I wish there was a way to hold a week long protest with millions in DC. We're here and we're not going away, sitting down, or shutting up.

Add your voice: Ask your representatives to support my plan for real health reform in 2009.

This is the money line. Based upon stories I am hearing about his speech last night (I didn't watch, my sock drawer needed re-organizing!), he said the same things he has said before and took nothing off the table (although, according to the reports, he allegedly threw the "public option" under the bus - which I know he didn't).

zero has charted his course straight into the heart of a category 5 hurricane and, no matter how many of the crew (us!) tell him to change course, he's going into the hurricane. I think he is just too egotistical to comprehend that he has expended his political capital on this issue and is now falling on his sword!!

Is there an accepted legal definition of “general Welfare”? That appears to me to be the only clause in Art 1 sec 8 that might be [mis]construed. Well, unless its the “commerce between the several states”, but in fact, the feds prevent insurance co’s from interstate competition.
