WASHINGTON (CNN) Former President George W. Bush "seemed to feel considerable unease" with John McCain as the Republican presidential nominee, according to ex-speechwriter Matt Latimer in his tell-all memoir on his days in the White House.
In Latimer's new book, "Speech-less: Tales of a White House Survivor," set to hit bookstores on September 22, he reveals Bush's reactions to the economic collapse, the presidential campaign, and other memorable events. GQ published an excerpt from the memoir in its October issue.
Latimer said Bush liked Mitt Romney best and that he was "clearly not impressed with the McCain operation." Latimer said the former president wanted to appear with McCain at a campaign event in Phoenix, but after he was told the then-Republican nominee couldn't get enough people to show up, he called it a "cruel hoax."

Bravo Sierra.
Remember, it’s all about Palin for the MSM. They’ll gladly publish a criticism of Zero if it comes with a free zinger at Palin.
That said, I think these are fabricated.
McCain may indeed have been “a cruel hoax”.
Goodness knows Bush had his flaws, but he looks awful good compared to Zero.
With Bush I wondered if he was in over his head, especially in 2008, but not whether he was trying to destroy our current political and economic systems.
The media pukes gave us our last nominee. They have already started for 2012.
They are trying to hurt Romney’s chances with the Independents by saying Bush was on his side.
The media are determined to make Obummer’s re-election easy.
“This is a dangerous world,’ he said for no apparent reason, ‘and this cat isn’t remotely qualified to handle it.”
Was that Bush speaking or Sammy Davis Jr.?
My good guess is Matt Latimer won’t be invited back to the Bush’s house any time soon.
McCain is a joke. I think Mitt is a nicer man with a nice family but he is a RINO.
Bush should not bash Sarah. He was caught flat footed and clueless in the Fall 2008 with the Soros/hedge fund/outside country financial attack caused by Fannie & Freddie.
Bush had no one inside from Wall Street obviously. Paulson could not be trusted because he is a Goldman guy. I wonder if his old man’s pal Nic Brady could have helped? Brady had run Dillon Read on Wall Street.
All I can say is THANK GOD Bush does not support Sarah Palin, now she can say she has nothing to do with the Bush Administration. Who needs to be associated with that train wreck. Look, I voted for Bush, TWICE, but he never stood up for himself, let the Dems walk all over him. Sarah doesn’t need his support, he wants to support Romney, that’s fine by me.
Well, from CNN I take it for what it’s worth.
He’s right on Obama.
He’s right on McCain.
I don’t think dumping on Palin is particularly productive, but I do want folks to remain rational regarding her capabilities.
Can’t say I’m sorry to see Bush disappear from the scene.
Could this book be all BS, we have to wait and see
McCain was the second hardest working man on the 0bama campaign.
“Former President George W. Bush “seemed to feel considerable unease” with John McCain as the Republican presidential nominee”
Welcome to the club, GW Bush!!!
His backing of Romney says all anyone needs to know about Romney. ;-) Of course, that’s if this report was true.
speaking of Sammy DAvis Jr, and with racism on our heels, during one of the Rat Pack’s shows Frank Sinatra quipped that Sammy DAvis Jr. rode on the back of the bus, and Dean Martin smarted off, “No he doesn’t. Hell, he OWNS the bus.”
Bush’s judgment is WAY off on Sarah Palin.
Despite his coddled frat-boy life, he ought to know better by now.
He wasn’t “prepared” for 9-11 and I’d say he did just fine. What EXACT preparation does Sarah Palin lack, George?

Now how Romney is that?
