Appeals court overturns campaign finance rules

WASHINGTON – Independent advocacy groups will be able to spend more money to try to influence federal elections under a decision Friday from a federal appeals court that overturned rules limiting nonprofits' campaign spending.

Three judges of the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington agreed with Emily's List, a nonprofit that backs women Democratic candidates who support abortion rights, that the regulations limited free speech rights.

The Federal Election Commission enacted the rules in 2005, after concerns were raised about the amount of unlimited "soft money" contributions used to fund attacks in the 2004 election.

The FEC said nonprofits would have to pay for political activities involving federal candidates using limited "hard money" contributions. Individuals are only allowed to donate up to $5,000 annually to a nonprofit that indicates it plans to use the money to support or oppose a federal candidate.

Looks like inside knowledge by the appeals court that McCain-Feingold will be overturned.

Nothing to do with the ruling, but I was going to try, note the word try, emilys list to see if it was any better than Craigs, however knowing her stance has just nixed that idea.

Should be - its unconstitutional.

If its good news for THEM, its BETTER news for US!

The NRA will be more powerful for this.

Finally, this unconstitutional law should never have been signed.

Though it’s really time to start following Reagan’s 11th commandment to put up a united front, it sure is hard sometimes when I think of the reasons we are having Marxism shoved down our throats. McCain-Feingold sure comes to mind...

Proof that 'politics makes strange bed-fellows'.
The NRA will prolly throw a HUGH party over this.

emily’s list is a feedback system where members rate services from providers such as building contractors. to get the information, you must pay money and be a member.

craigs list is a free posting of goods and services for sale....and also...a social networking site...man seeks woman...etc.

they are totally different
