Health Reformers Targeting 'Enemies'
Washington Times ^ | 9/22/2009 | S A Miller

Posted on 09/22/2009 11:30:25 AM PDT by RushIsMyTeddyBear

The plan for a series of grass-roots demonstrations Tuesday to promote President Obama's health care agenda calls for tightly scripted events and an "escalation" of efforts against "enemies" of reform.

Organizers insist there is no comparison to rowdy summer town hall meetings and recent "tea party" protests that have challenged White House policies.

But Health Care for America Now (HCAN), which is backed by a coalition of labor unions and liberal groups including ACORN and MoveOn.org, organized the protests to target insurance companies and drafted the plan, which describes the demonstrations as part of its "insurance enemies project."

The document, a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Times, details specific talking points, tactics, props and strategies to stage the protests. It lists goals that include action that "mobilizes our base by animating existing anger about private insurers."

The HCAN field plan dictates that each protest will include a minimum of 30 participants, target only health care insurers CIGNA, WellPoint and United Health Care and showcase what it calls "victims," or people who have either lost insurance, can't afford it or were denied coverage because of pre-existing medical conditions.

The biggest long term danger I see is this wording, labeling opponants as “enemies”, is the presedent set by Hitler, slowly convincing the German population (over a 5 yr period of time) that the Jewish-German citizens were “enemies”. This type of dialogue can NOT be tolerated and MUST be called on the carpet before it becomes a main stream term.

I can see where this one is going. Any conservative should be VERY concerned about their use of this tactic. Combined with DHS already classifying anyone who doesn’t tow the progressive/marxist agenda as a “potential threat”, if we lose our country to these thugs, there is a very real chance of devistating consequences.

I watched a little bit of a hearing about health insurance on CSPAN the other day. VPs from the three above named companies were there.

Elijah Cummings was just SURE that they were denying claims right and left. But what should come out? Medicare refuses to pay 10% of claims. The highest rejection rate I heard from any of the private insurers was about 5% IIRC, and several of them reported denial rates below 1%. It might have been the guy from Cigna or Wellpoint who said they deny only 1/10% of 1% of claims.

Yeah, gummint insurance would be wunnerful.

Since United Healthcare is already run by SEIU, this sounds more like empty threats.

Describing astroturfing and calling it “grass roots” does not make it so.

They are going to start riots, stand back and blame the other side, and then swoop in and takeover 1/7th of our economy.

Time to "get off the grid."

I'm not surprized, but I'd never heard that. Do you have sources?

You have to laugh at zero.

He’s single-handedly turned “health reform” into something like “amnesty”.

And we’ll answer with the “Can You Hear Us Now” demonstrations in October. This is so cool. Finally the gloves are off on both sides.
