Washington, D.C. (AHN) - Candy or fruit flavored cigarettes are no more. The Food and Drug Administration banned the products Tuesday as part of a campaign to reduce smoking.

The flavored tobacco products could entice children into the smoking habit, said FDA Commissioner Dr. Margaret A. Hamburg. "Almost 90 percent of adult smokers start smoking as teenagers," she said. "These flavored cigarettes are a gateway for many children and young adults to become regular smokers."

In a statement, the FDA said that studies have found that 17-year-old smokers are three times as likely to use flavored cigarettes as smokers over 25.

About 3,600 people start smoking every day, according to the FDA.

The agency also is considering regulation of flavored tobacco products other than cigarettes as well as menthol cigarettes.

Well, there you have it! I guess I'll be switching to REAL cigars, versus my Swisher Sweets once a year on my birthday.

Jerks.

"...the FDA said that studies have found that 17-year-old smokers are three times as likely to use flavored cigarettes as smokers over 25"

banning strawberry flavored blunts (cigars stuffed with pot) might become a thing of the past -angering many a gangbanger.

Are they also getting rid of clove cigs? So - let’s legalize pot and get rid of fruit flavored or sweetened cigs, and the illegal activity will switch from drugs over to sweetened cigarettes. Really, really smart.

These bozos are nuts. I had plenty of those things when I was a kid. Never smoked a single cigarette. Took one puff early on and decided it wasn’t for me.

I recommend a good Punch cigar.Or acid, if you can afford them.
The nanny state has spoken. Next is a sugar tax, bacon tax, fried food tax or bascially anything that is fun but might be bad for you tax. A tax on gay bath house sex or gay highway rest stop sex in out of the question.

Clove were ok I smoked them for a bit now doing the E-Cig. They do not really want us to quit smoking because the revenues will go down seriously then.

Yeah and cheeseburgers are a gateway food to obesity.

Its fine to hop the tykes up on pop tarts and sugar bombs but dont let ADULTS have an adult product kiddies might like the taste of.

Idiots surround us

Starting at midnight this morning, you were not able to. Tobacconists are not allowed to sell or buy as of the end of the day 9/21.

Djarum is finishing some paperwork on their new clove cigars, which use a homogenized wrapper, different tobacco, and come in packs of 12. The FDA is bumping heads with them a bit, but you should be able to find some clove cigars that resemble and taste very similar to Djarum cigarettes.

This ban from the FDA does not apply to flavored cigars, pipe tobacco, or additional OTP, only cigarettes.

Here’s the FDA web page on this:

Couldn’t they have banned abortions instead?
