John Semcken, a vice president at Majestic Realty, hopes to have a team committed to the new stadium by 2010. But league labor issues could delay plans. (Reed Saxon / Associated Press / January 7, 2009)
Since the Raiders and Rams left Southern California after the 1994 season, several developers have come forward with grand but ultimately unrealized plans for bringing the NFL back to Los Angeles.
Plans have been floated for stadiums in Carson, downtown Los Angeles, Anaheim and Pasadena's Rose Bowl. But at least for now, the proposal attracting the attention of state and local officials is developer Ed Roski Jr.'s plan to build an $800-million NFL stadium near the junction of the 57 and 60 freeways in the City of Industry. Roski's plan cleared a significant political hurdle this week when the project's main opponent -- the city of Walnut -- agreed to drop a lawsuit aimed at killing the plan.
By quelling at least most of the local concerns over the stadium and gaining the backing of most surrounding cities, Roski has gotten further than some other NFL dreamers.
But football fans should not get their hopes up quite yet.
Even if Roski can clear the remaining legal and zoning thicket, it remains unclear whether such a large project -- which would include retail and office space, as well as practice fields and banquet facilities -- could get construction loans amid the credit crunch. (This issue has stalled several other mega-projects in Southern California, including the Frank Gehry-designed Grand Avenue development in downtown Los Angeles.)

I got question Ernest is my Raiders coming back to LA OR NOT LOL!
I could get to that location...
Say hello again to the Los Angeles Chargers.
I am not a Raiders FAN...
Remeber some of the Chiefs and Raiders games....the Raiders were always doing cheap hits and crap on the field!
I see the developer has a Blue tooth in his ear.....
That screams A-hole to me right away....
And all of that open ground just grows brush and then the Santa Ana's lits it up....
Might as well pave it over....
Fine, but just to be clear, the ST. LOUIS Rams are staying in St. Louis.
Look elsewhere for your team.
Compared to the help St. Louis got, the NFL is falling all over themselves to get a team back in LA.
I wish I had kept my Irwindale Raiders cap I bought at the Spring Valley swap meet long ago.
Haven’t been to a pro football game in L.A. since 1990, when a Raider fan beat Steeler fan into a coma at the Coliseum. Had Raider season tickets (in L.A.) from ‘84 - ‘90, and witnessed brawls in the stands at almost every game. ....very different than the Ram crowd in the ‘70s.
The Chargers really are the only choice, they’ve been in Southern California, for 50 years, they have essentially been Southern California’s team since the Raiders and Rams left. And of course, the move isn’t very far at all. And while it’s a long trip for the base in San Diego, at least it’s still close enough.
Meh. I get invited for a gathering at West Covina which is close to Industry and I think about it carefully. The I-10 is already a nightmare just to get there.
The bigger rumor is the Los Angeles Bills.
Could well be the Bill’s. Ralph Wilson is old, has said the team will be sold to the highest bidder
LA is broke. California is broke.
Is building a stadium and getting an NFL team really a good idea? Seems a little like fiddling while Rome burns.
If they didn’t mind semi-pro, they could have the Browns.
Hope nobody gets snookered like Irwindale did by Al “da schmuck” Davis.
“Say hello again to the Los Angeles Chargers.”
I disagree. LA Jaguars.
I thought the Bills might move to Toronto?
“Compared to the help St. Louis got, the NFL is falling all over themselves to get a team back in LA.”
It’s all about TV contracts.
The Jacksonville Jaguars will be the next team to relocate and LA are has already been mentioned by ESPN...you could do worse...like getting the Raiders
