Gaddafi interpreter 'collapsed during UN speech'

A Libyan interpreter brought over by Muammar Gaddafi to translate his speech at the United Nations General Assembly collapsed 75 minutes into the rambling diatribe, it has emerged.
Visiting dignitaries usually rely on the UN's highly professional team of interpreters but the Libyan leader brought his own expert linguists to translate his speech into English and French, saying that the UN's Arabic language interpreters would not be able to understand his Libyan dialect.
In the event, according to the New York Post, Colonel Gaddafi spoke in standard Arabic - but still got lost in translation. An hour and a quarter into the speech his interpreter shouted into the live microphone in Arabic: "I just can't take it any more."
At that point, the UN's Arabic section chief, Rasha Ajalyaqeen, took over and translated the final 20 minutes of the speech.
"His interpreter just collapsed – this is the first time I have seen this in 25 years," another UN Arabic interpreter said.
Ms Ajalyaqeen was given the next day off.

Too funny! I tuned out the minute he called the ‘O’ one the son of Africa, and said he hoped he’d be president forever!
It was either fry my brains listening or grab a barf bucket!
Plus, the hat, flowing robes and the bling on his shoulder were starting to look ridiculous on a grown man.
I may actually try to find a recording of this speech to watch, it sounds like political comedy of the highest order.

My condolences to the lady. She screams "I just can't take it anymore" into the microphone and scoots. The guys in the audience can at least turn off their earpieces.
Mad Mo - my man! I took great delight in announcing to my liberal friends yesterday that he's no more nuts than the rest of them, their idol 0bama included. Don't know if the city of New York stocks enough rubber clown noses for a full meeting of the General Assembly. There was probably a run on them.
I can’t believe we conservatives have allowed the UN to go along unprotested for so long. We could appoint ourselves dictators, then award ourselves all kinds of medals and honors. We could dress up in all kinds of crazy costumes (see Idi Amin, g’Daffy, Saudi prince, Emperor Bok-ASSa, etc. pix).
What a ball it would be - parading up and down in front of the UN, issuing mandates and proclamations, harassing tourists and posing for photo ops. (Just like the tin horn dictators and sycophants inside.)

Interesting. Many years ago, I met a young lady who was an interpereter, and she once had to interpret for Gadaffi (into French). Said it was the hardest time she ever had with the job. It’s not just the dialect he speaks, but his personal speaking style that is the challenge.
