We Like Chicago, Too [The New York Times Slams Bam Alert]
New York Times ^ | October 3, 2009

Posted on 10/03/2009 4:58:51 AM PDT by Zakeet

We would like to congratulate Rio de Janeiro for winning the right to host the 2016 Summer Olympics. It will be the first time that the Games are held in South America, and it is a fitting tribute to Brazil’s growing stature. That said, we have to ask: What was President Obama thinking when he flew off to Copenhagen to lobby the International Olympic Committee on behalf of Chicago?

We don’t doubt Mr. Obama’s devotion to his adopted hometown. Or that Chicago would have been a great place for the Games. Leaders from all the other countries bidding showed up, too. And we don’t buy the posturing by Republicans who said that his trip meant he was neglecting the nation’s business. But in the midst of everything Mr. Obama is dealing with, who needs even a minor loss?

[Snip]

We like having an articulate, fiercely competitive president, especially one with such a strong moral compass. But guys, if you’re going to roll the dice, next time make sure the stakes are worth it.

You know you've wee-wee'd up real bad when your best friend in the whole world says things like this.

This isn’t a slam. It’s trying to whitewash failure by labeling it a “minor loss.” And the “strong moral compass” is hardly a diss.

One, Mr. Obama, and his White House chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, another Chicagoan, love a good competition; the other is that they have a tad too much confidence in Mr. Obama’s hortatory powers.

This kind of over-confidence is safe (but stupid) with something like the Olympics, but it will be deadly and stupid with Iran.

We like having a president like that too. Maybe we will in 2012.

I like the way Krauthammer described them, “Euro-trash.” Guess he won’t be getting tickets. He seems to have been given more latitude and is happier.

Every now and then the Saturday Times tells the truth.

By Monday the NYSlimes will be blaming Bush, the racists, and talk radio.

Dear Gail:

Does this mean I'm not your BFF anymore?

“Mr. Obama has done important, courageous things to restore America’s standing. After George W. Bush, it feels good — and safer — to know that people around the world feel better about this country and about this president.”

And what “courageous” things did he do?

It may be true that the “world feels better” but that “feeling” is laughter and will be short term.

To claim the world is “safer” is just plain foolish. Not one action of Obama’s has made the world safer. Ask Eastern Europe if they feel safer. Ask the Israelis if they feel safer. Ask Iran's neighbors if they feel safer.

Carter redux on steroids...

moral compass? They’ve got to be kidding.

Anyway, shen did the left learn to like competition so much? The whole bidding for the games thing is so anti-spread the wealth around. Do they ever listen to themselves?

The man is bankrupting the nation with both hands and he has a “strong moral compass.” Blech.

This whole thing stunk from the beginning. The “esconomy” is in a mess, disasters all over the place and he and his pets jet off to the land of the white man to push something on Chicago that Chicago can’t afford. Sacrifice my butt.

Is a “moral compass” something you have in lieu of morals? This week Harvey Weinstein said that Hollywood had a very strong moral compass in defense of their coming to the aid of Roman Polanski.
I guess you either have morals or you need a moral compass to try to find them. If you have a strong moral compass, it means you are very far off and need a lot of help to find morals.
