Iowa at Disney encouraging gays to move to Hawkeye State
October 2nd, 2009
by Eric Carpenter
Figuring that plenty of gay couples in California are frustrated by the inability to get legally married here, representatives from Iowa have set up a booth at Gay Days at the Disneyland Resort encouraging them to consider moving to the Hawkeye State.
Iowa is one of four states nationwide that allow gay marriages. That states Supreme Court made the decision earlier this year.
Two representatives for three regional visitors bureaus flew out for the three-day Gay Days, when 30,000 partipants roll into town to attend Disneyland. Gay Days is not sponsored by nor discouraged by Disney.
At the booth set up inside Disneys Grand Californian hotel, gay and lesbian couples sampled wedding cake and posed for photos inside a frame that read, Just Married In Iowa City!
The Iowa representatives took the free photos and supplied the tuxedo jackets and bridal veils. They also handed out brochures touting Iowa City, Cedar Rapids and Coralville, among other cities.
We want people to know that if the California Legislature is unwilling to take the step to give gay couples the right to marry, then please consider coming to Iowa where we will gladly welcome you with open arms, said Joe Jennison, executive director of the Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance.
Jennison, who is gay, is originally from Iowa and lived in California including Orange County for 13 years before moving back to his home state in 2003.
Even I thought I might be greeted as a gay man by bigots and closed-minded people, he said. But it turned out nothing could have been further from the truth. Iowa is a very progressive state.
The booth also was staffed by Eric Heinkel...

What the heck happened to Iowa over the years, and how could it happen when it is in the heartland region?
I dunno, this is a head scratcher for me.
What was it Rush said?
The Hawkeye Cock Eye?
If you repeat a big lie often enough, do people believe it?
Where did the idea of hatred of gays come from? Why is this falsehood perpetuated that “middle America” and/or conservatives have hatred for gays, if they oppose same-sex marriage???????
Anecdotal evidence — friends of the family who are “lesbian” live in Mississippi. The state of Mississippi adopted a marriage amendment with 86% of the vote. That state should be the sweltering simmering cauldron of gay hatred based on that vote. Our friends are open but not pushy about their lives. People leave them alone and they haven’t experienced any of this gay hatred.
I saw more hatred from the other side after the vote in California to eliminate gay marriage than I have ever seen from those opposing same-sex marriage. Why do the MSM and gay groups never, ever, focus on the hatred from some in the homosexual community towards those who do not swallow the entire gay agenda??????
I have nothing against gays but Id rather suggest keep their business in their bedroom like my neighbor does :O
Remember that movie “Americathon” way back in the late 1970s? The US goes bankrupt and some American Indian threatens to foreclose. Yet at the beginning it mentions some state (not sure if it was Iowa) becomming the US’s first officially gay state.
Man, maybe the song was right after all! Did The Dead Milkmen know something?
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
California didn’t start out nasty, either. It happens.
Yeah, there’s all that corn on the cob in Iowa.......
Americathon. Great movie. I wonder why it just sorta vanished?
Who’da thinked it.
>> What the heck happened to Iowa over the years, and how could it happen when it is in the heartland region?
If I was a conspiricy guy, I’d have to include that the commies somehow slipped somehting into the corn back during the cold war.
What happened in Iowa is another case of activist judges legislating from the bench. The liberals stack courts with their judges, bring these cases when the timing is right, then see their policy preferences become law due to “landmark” cases in which judges strike down long standing and broadly accepted laws as unconstitutional.
USA following in the footsteps of Europe and Canada here.
I recently saw a blog where the “merits” of this gay marriage phenomenon were being argued between pro-tradition and pro-gay. Not once did anybody bring up a comparison with other countries’ experience with it, which I frankly would have thought to be the pro-gays’ best shot (though most of these “marriages” turn out to be promiscuity centers worse than both partners each on his or her own).
Iowa: Where women are lonely and straight men aren't welcome.
Iowa: We'll give a neighbor the shirt off our shaved, oiled, well-muscled back.
Iowa: Forming a conga line in the flaming Midwest!
Iowa: The (corn) Whole State Welcomes You!
Too prophetic? Just like Idiocracy?
“activist judges legislating from the bench” AND Iowa has an almost impossible to amend State Constitution. Iowa is more liberal that alot of people like to admit.
....”touting Iowa City, Cedar Rapids and Coralville....”
...Iowa City is home to the University of Iowa ...Coralville is right next door....Cedar Rapids is just up the road.
....college towns are always a bit strange, and Iowa City always seems to have something controversial going on.
Welcome to Iowa: where the women are men and the sheep are scared.
They don’t want to move to Iowa or any other state where fag “marriage” is already the law, because that’s not the real agenda. They want to force states which oppose fag “marriage” to enact it. Because the real agenda isn’t their right to fag “marriage”, it’s the destruction of the American family as a part of the destruction of American culture and society. That’s why they don’t just be happy little fags and live their faggy little lives, they insist on their “right” to go to taxpayer-funded government schools and teach OTHER PEOPLE’S CHILDREN about the “joys” of the fag lifestyle, and why they insist on their right to give their AIDS-ridden fag blood to public bloodbanks.
