David Cameron must fill the leadership vacuum left by Barack Obama
Telegraph UK ^ | October 7, 2009 | Nile Gardiner.

Posted on 10/07/2009 4:51:05 PM PDT by greyfoxx39

David Cameron must reject the folly of the Obama doctrine and follow the example of Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan.

With every major poll pointing to a Conservative victory at the next election, it is highly likely that David Cameron, and not Gordon Brown, will represent British interests on the world stage in eight months’ time. However, as Cameron prepares for power he would do well to look across the Atlantic for a lesson in how not to lead in international affairs.

The Tory leader, like the mayor of London, is unashamedly an admirer of Barack Obama, whom he has described as “incredibly impressive”.

-SNIP-

Barack Obama’s central failing in foreign policy has been his striking hesitation to project American global power and leadership, which in the eyes of America’s enemies and competitors translates as weakness and vulnerability. He has sacrificed US strength and influence on the altar of international popularity, as though the world were an extension of the stage of American Idol, and not a hugely dangerous place where the United States remains hated and reviled by those who seek its demise.

-SNIP-

His administration cares little for British sovereignty either, enthusiastically backing further political, military and economic integration in Europe.

In every area, the Obama strategy is undermining American power. The White House’s hugely controversial strategy of engagement with rogue regimes has backfired spectacularly, with Iran and North Korea responding with even greater threats and aggression. Even the French now think Obama is weak in the face of Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the menacing Mullahs of Tehran.

About Obama...

“He has sacrificed US strength and influence on the altar of international popularity, as though the world were an extension of the stage of American Idol..”

Truer words were never uttered.

Americans should start reading the British Press. At least in some British papers you can find some truth. You can’t find the truth anywhere in the MSM here in America.

Already a danger sign. Cameron is either very easily fooled or very eaten up with white guilt. Hopefully, he has looked more closely during 2009 and come to different conclusions.

Read it. Loved it. Thanks for posting. :)

And is it too much to HOPE that after four YEARS of this ‘Idiot in Chief’ the whole WORLD will be leaning Conservative?

Yeah. I thought so. But, I gotta have a dream, LOL!

Cameron is either very easily fooled or very eaten up with white guilt.

He's just an opportunist, looking for ways to attract votes. No one knows what his principles are, if he has any. He saw Obama was popular in England, so he has professed himself an admirer. If a majority of those from whom he seeks votes should revise their opinion of Obama, he'll turn soon enough.

I guess the conservatives in Britain are most unlike the conservatives in America? What a waste!

When the surrender monkey French look on the USA as weak, you know we are humiliated.

The really frightening prospect to me is that unavoidable future confrontation that will force Obama to have to use the awesome might of US military -- he is bound to overplay it, and the already destabilized world will reel.

I’ve met him. He isn’t much of a leader. Nice guy, and very erudite, but not exactly someone who could shout “advance” and find himself at the head of an infantry charge.

Possibly, but be aware that British Prime Ministers, and even potential British Prime Ministers, HAVE to be best buddies with the US president. Not with the person, or their political ideology, but with the office itself.

In other words, there’s not much else that Cameron could say other than that Obama is “incredibly impressive”. What he might THINK is another matter. I know that Obama doesnt think much of him.
