When he took the post of culture minister of France last June, Frédéric Mitterrand probably did not think that a four-year-old tell-all book could come back to haunt him.
But this week his admission in a 2005 autobiography that he paid for sex with boys in Thailand became the subject of a campaign to oust him from the cabinet of President Nicolas Sarkozy.
The reason for the sudden interest in Mr. Mitterrands prose was his quick and energetic defense last month of the film director Roman Polanski, who is fighting extradition to the United States from Switzerland over a charge resulting from his having sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977.
On Monday, Marine Le Pen, daughter of the founder of the far-right National Front, Jean-Marie Le Pen, produced Mr. Mitterrands autobiography, The Bad Life, during a late-night television show and began reading excerpts before calling for his resignation.
Then, on Wednesday, the spokesman of the Socialist Party, Benoît Hamon, seized on the issue: As a minister of culture he has drawn attention to himself by defending a filmmaker accused of raping a child, and he has written a book where he said he took advantage of sex tourism. At the very least I find this shocking.
By Thursday the pressure had become so intense that Mr. Mitterrand, 62, a nephew of former President François Mitterrand and a longtime television celebrity, scheduled an appearance on prime-time television to defend himself.
Yes, I had relations with boys, a visibly shaken Mr. Mitterrand told the interviewer on the TF1 network when he was asked about the passage in his book that talks about seeking out male prostitutes in Southeast Asia.

The plot sickens.
Polls in the Socialist newspaper, le Monde, have a majority disapproval, and want Fred to quit.*0% want Polanski to come to the US and face the music.
How times have changed.
I note the fall of Fred with some sadness, as I liked him as a TV host and writer of books on American cinema. Making his private life public, and his public statements of the child rapist, Polanski, make him totally unacceptable to hold a position in Sarko’s government.
“Mr. Mitterrand had referred to the male prostitutes sometimes as garçons, or boys, and sometimes as gosses, or kids, injecting some ambiguity about age into the debate.
Had he committed an error?
An error, yes. A crime, no, the minister said Thursday, ruling out his resignation.”
Seems to apply in France as well.
And this is news?
eeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Another Fr pedo at upper levels of government-—>>>
The astonishing thing about this is that Frédéric Mitterand put the information about paying for sex with Thai boys into his autobiography of his own free will. That strongly suggests that he finds such ugly, sexually exploitative and likely criminal behavior perfectly acceptable for the wealthy and sophisticated homosexual world citizen. He probably thought that his admission would make him the subject of admiring talk in the salons of Gay Paree.
What kind of culture does this depraved crapweasel oversee in France? Who could trust the soundness of his judgment on any cultural issues of moment given his deviant worldview, not to mention his moral blindness as evidenced by his willingness to overlook the impact of his own behavior on the bodies and psyches of his young victims?
He probably thinks that his sexuality and moral depravity enhances his sophistication. It's the key pin to a cultured world view.
Well, he’s French, a politician and a television personality. That’s the trifecta for Eurocreeps no?
“Why, if this were America, they would give me my own late-night show!”
Indeed it does!
So why did Sarko appoint a perv to be “Culture Minister?”
No doubt.
Daniel Cohn-Bendit is not a part of the Sarkozy government at any level.
He has been a vicious, virulent opponent of Sarko and his Right wing party, UMP
FWIW, he was one of the first to come out and criticize Mitterrand.
He is a German politician, active in France and Germany, and was a student leader during the unrest of May 1968 in France. He was also known during that time as Dany le Rouge (French for “Danny the Red”, because of both his politics and the color of his hair). He is currently co-president of the group European GreensEuropean Free Alliance in the European Parliament.
Very strong family resemblance to his odious uncle, Francois Mitterand, President of France from 1981-1093.
Add to that a nephew of a former President of France.
They say that politics is the second-oldest profession on earth and is nearly the same as the oldest.
I believe that sex and politics mix, no matter how we want them not to. Let the politicians do who they want, but it must be reported; failure to report is grounds for dismissal.
I’m sorry
He made his reputation on barricades in France Universite de Nantes and spoke French in that video....did you watch it?
But he grew up to be a German politician.
Correct?
