Fox’s Volley With Obama Intensifying

By BRIAN STELTER October 11, 2009

Attacking the news media is a time-honored White House tactic but to an unusual degree, the Obama administration has narrowed its sights to one specific organization, the Fox News Channel, calling it, in essence, part of the political opposition.

“We’re going to treat them the way we would treat an opponent,” said Anita Dunn, the White House communications director, in a telephone interview on Sunday. “As they are undertaking a war against Barack Obama and the White House, we don’t need to pretend that this is the way that legitimate news organizations behave.”

Her comments are only the latest in the volatile exchange between the administration and the top-rated network, which is owned by the News Corporation, controlled by Rupert Murdoch. Last month, Roger Ailes, the chairman of Fox News, and David Axelrod, a senior adviser to President Obama, met for coffee in New York, in what Politico, which last week broke that news, labeled a “Fox summit.”

While neither party has said what was discussed, some have speculated that a truce, or at least an adjustment in tone, was at issue. (Mr. Ailes and Mr. Obama reportedly reached a temporary accord after a meeting in mid-2008.) But shots are still being fired, which animates the idea that both sides see benefits in the feud.

Fox seems to relish the controversy.

“As they are undertaking a war against Barack Obama and the White House, we don’t need to pretend that this is the way that legitimate news organizations behave.”

So much for any pretense that the media is "supposed" to serve as another check-and-balance for government power.

Coffee? They didn't even meet for a beer?

I would have walked.

Just what experience does this White House have in dealing with "legitimate news organizations" anyway? Is Chris "Thrill Going up my Leg" Matthews part of the legitimate news organizations with they are accustomed to dealing?

Actually no it isn't, but the NYT wants us to think the Bamster has historical precedence on his side.

Maybe it isn't the first time the White House has explained to Fox how they will report the news."

The only other president I can think of that complained about the media as much as bambi is Nixon. Hopefully soon Fox news won’t have bambi to kick around any more cuz he will have resigned in shame.

I can dream can’t I?

Fox seems to relish the controversy.

That must be it! Why else would a news organization actually attempt to report news about this administration? And news about Acorn? And news about Tea Parties which wasn't negative? With actual weather reports which contradict Global Warming? Fox just likes controversy!

Do these clowns from the New York Times even listen to themselves think?

Ask Alan Keyes how they treat political opponents! Everyone at FOX had better step up their security. The sad fact is there are millions of us who the WH would like to oblitherate as well!

The liberal goons in the White House had better think twice about this...they will lose if they continue down their intended path.

Every day in every way, Bozo shows his communistic side. First amendment is something he has never heard of. Hey, Bozo, the press has every right in the world to attack you and if you don't like it too bad.

A news media that kisses your a** isn't legitimate, it is biased and in the tank for you.

You would think after all the publicity and new ratings these idiots have given Rush and Beck that they would learn these tactics don't work.
