Another of Obama’s Radical Appointees (Diversity Czar has plans to "balance" Talk Radio)
The Reality Check ^ | 10/12/2009 | Warner Todd Huston

Posted on 10/12/2009 4:30:57 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

The Old Media wholly ignored the story, but one of the extremists that Barack Obama appointed as a so-called czar in his government had to step down when the full extent of his un-American radicalism was exposed on the Internet. Obama’s “green czar,” Van Jones, resigned when it was revealed how anti-American his rhetoric was not to mention his membership in a Marxist organization. But Van Jones isn’t the only far leftist that Obama has tried to foist on this country in places of influence.

We’ve been hearing lately about the radical homosexual agenda of Obama’s “safe schools czar,” Kevin Jennings. When he was a school teacher, Jennings once admittedly abetted a sexual relationship between a teenage male student of his and an adult man. He did not report this molestation, but smiled and advised the poor kid to “use a condom.”

There are several other examples of Obama’s radical appointees, some of whom have already had to leave their positions, and lately we’ve seen another example in Obama’s FCC “diversity czar,” Mark Lloyd.

On October 8, Glenn Beck reported that Mark Lloyd had co-authored a paper titled “The Structural Imbalance of Political Talk Radio.” This slanted paper whines that AM talk radio is dominated by conservative views and suggests that liberal views should be forced upon the talk radio industry.

That left-wing idea, of course, is bad enough, but the group that Lloyd was working with to have the paper published shows ties to left-wingers, out right Marxists and other haters of this country and that connection should have disqualified Lloyd for service in the federal government.

Lloyd published his report with a group called The Center for American Progress and the Free Press both headquartered in Washington D.C. These groups claim to be “nonpartisan,” but that belies their leftist ideologies.

For instance, founder of the Free Press, Robert W. McChesney, has said some pretty harsh stuff against the U.S.A

For instance, at the end of September of 2001, right after the Twin Towers fell, McChesney said that the United States was the, “leading terrorist institution in the world today.”

In February of 2009, McChesney recommended that capitalism be “dismantled” in the U.S.A. It is typical communist boilerplate.

In the end, there is no real answer but to remove brick by brick the capitalist system itself, rebuilding the entire society on socialist principles. This is something that the great majority of the population will undoubtedly learn in the course of their struggles for a more equal, more humane, more collective, and more sustainable world. In the meantime, it is time to begin to organize a revolt against the ruling class–imposed ceiling on civilian government spending and social welfare in U.S. society.

A November, 2004 interview conducted by one Tanner Mirrlees for a magazine called “Relay, a Socialist Project Review,” McChesney called advertising “capitalist propaganda” and proposed the government “limit” it and “perhaps even eliminate it.”

Advertising is commercial propaganda… We need to do whatever we can to limit capitalist propaganda, regulate it, minimize it, and perhaps even eliminate it.

McChesney has also taken the lead in pushing for a government bail-out of the newspaper industry in order to take control of the news message.

And these are the sort of people that Obama’s “diversity czar” surrounds himself with and he isn’t the only one in Obama’s administration that does so. Sadly, the Old Media completely ignores the anti-American ideas being spouted by Obama’s so-called czars and their friends.

See here for a background of Diversity Czar, Mark Lloyd:

http://www.honestquestions.com/articles/people-surrounding-president-obama.asp

Mark Lloyd

Mark Lloyd, Chief “Diversity” Officer, FCC, whose work prior was at the Center for American Progress focused on “communications policy issues, including universal service, advanced telecommunications deployment, media concentration and diversity.” (from the Mark Lloyd bio on Netcaucus.org) On their face, we’re unsure what most of these focuses actually mean in practical terms.

But in his 2006 book Prologue to a Farce: Communication and Democracy in America, Lloyd puts his philosophy in these terms:

It should be clear by now that my focus here is not freedom of speech or the press. . . . This freedom is all too often an exaggeration. . . . At the very least, blind references to freedom of speech or the press serve as a distraction from the critical examination of other communications policies.

Perhaps this rings most true in a report he co-authored in 2007 for the Center For American Progress called “The Structural Imbalance of Political Talk Radio” (read the report co-authored by Mark Lloyd). In the report Mark Lloyd reaches the conclusion that neither the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine nor market demand adequately explain the dominance of conservative talk radio. Rather, he believes the issue lies with the structure of government content regulation, as described here:

Our conclusion is that the gap between conservative and progressive talk radio is the result of multiple structural problems in the U.S. regulatory system, particularly the complete breakdown of the public trustee concept of broadcast, the elimination of clear public interest requirements for broadcasting, and the relaxation of ownership rules including the requirement of local participation in management.

This analysis suggests that any effort to encourage more responsive and balanced radio programming will first require steps to increase localism and diversify radio station ownership to better meet local and community needs. We suggest three ways to accomplish this:

* Restore local and national caps on the ownership of commercial radio stations.
* Ensure greater local accountability over radio licensing.
* Require commercial owners who fail to abide by enforceable public interest obligations to pay a fee to support public broadcasting.

Mark Lloyd’s views on how his agenda dovetails (or doesn’t) with the First Amendment are clear. It’s difficult to believe that his role in the FCC will be anything other than to move this agenda forward — namely, to override market demand and, through the guise of “localism”, to control broadcast content by pushing burdensome regulations and disproportionate fees for undesirable content. It appears to be a direct attack on free-market talk radio.

We’ll also point out that Glenn Beck, on his Fox News program, featured video (watch Mark Lloyd praise Castro and Chavez) of a talk Mark Lloyd gave in 2008 referring to the Hugo Chavez crackdown and takeover in Venezuela as “an incredible revolution — a democratic revolution.” A democratic revolution?

Bottom line: Lloyd is tooled to enact oppression of free speech to support his own views supportive of and/or sympathetic to anti-capitalism and communism. He works directly for the President.

So does that mean they plan on competing channels that no one listens to?

Or does he mean the current way it's done is racists and we need to be more like the two bit tin pot commie Chavez? I say they go for Chavez's way, since our two bit tin pot commie sees him as a friend.

That messy first amendment.

And easy way to do it is just let the crap turd liberals have the other band of a HD FM signal. That way the crap turd channels won't cost the stations any revenues. Our local AM talk channel has switched to FM, and looks headed this way.

You knew they were going to try this.

Get a Court that believes in the “living Constitution” ala Sotomayor, Ginsburg, Stevens, et.al. and bye bye First Amendment!

Apparently Lloyd plans to fine non-complaint (with regulations he writes himself) stations so much that they will become insolvent (to fund “public” radio) and give the stations to minority owners to “balance” the power.

And he does indeed admire Chavez very much. These commies know if you take away the media (which they’ve almost done with the bootlickers on pretty much every station except FOX, and talk radio) the people will be much more susceptible to takeover.

Maybe some nice young folks could point a hidden camera at him while posing as Black Panthers wanting to do something naughty to a few radio stations...

So does that mean they plan on competing channels that no one listens to?

That would have been a legitimate way of getting their ideas through.

Unfortunately, they've tried it and it failed miserably.

Remember AIR AMERICA MEDIA with its cadre of talk show hosts --- Al Franken, Janine Garofalo, etc. ?

On October 13, 2006, Air America filed for bankruptcy protection under Chapter 11, at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

Al Franken alone was owed US$360,749.98 and Rob Glaser, founder of Real Networks, was owed the most at US$9.8 million. The filing had over 25 pages of creditors and showed that the company lost US$9.1 million in 2004, US$19.6 million in 2005 and an additional US$13.1 million by mid-October in 2006.

Contrast that to Rush Limbaugh's EIB Network, which has only grown stronger even after 20 years of operation.

Not being able to compete freely in the market place, the left have done what they're always wont to do when they can't win people's hearts and minds through ideas --- USE THE FORCE OF GOVERNMENT.

Thomas Sowell might have included BO's appointments in this very important question...

"Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, Muammar Qaddafi and Vladimir Putin have all praised Barack Obama. When enemies of freedom and democracy praise your president, what are you to think? When you add to this Barack Obama's many previous years of associations and alliances with people who hate America-- Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, Father Pfleger, etc.-- at what point do you stop denying the obvious and start to connect the dots?"

I think you may be wrong ... Yes I have heard what the plan is.

The commies may know what to do, but fortunately for them, Venezuelans aren't armed. Doing it in the USA might be a tad tough.

I researched it superficially, and posted a blog of my findings here.

The Supreme Court has ruled twice on the electronic media that I could find ... They have been well you know --- mushy both times. The closest they came was this -— In the case of Miami Herald Publishing Co. v. Tornillo, 418 U.S. 241 (1974), Chief Justice Warren Burger wrote (for a unanimous court), “Government-enforced right of access inescapably dampens the vigor and limits the variety of public debate.”

Not going to be pretty.

You are right, but doing it their way is something that we won’t allow — right? The reason leftists radio is not successful, here are in Venezuela, is people quickly figure out it’s all lies and tune out.

Talk radio is scripted interactive, which is why the truth works so well and lies fail so spectacularly.

The left already has a radio FM network, and has had it for decades. It broadcasts in a handful of large metro areas in the US. This network takes no advertising, and its hosts have an elaborate conspiracy about why the network has such small coverage. The conspiracy includes all the favorite hard-core left buzzwords (advertising, big corporations, etc.) but does not explain how, even with all the evil capitalists running "mainstream" radio, people are prevented from tuning in to the leftist network (since that's what they really want to hear). Of course, the constant barrage of hate speech emanating from this network has nothing to do with why people don't listen.

The network is Pacifica.

Well if you discount the NPR taxpayer paid propaganda channel.

Good blog. The big problem with research on these malefactors is that they say one thing and do another to hide their sinister agendas.

Will Americans really take up arms if radio stations are taken from one owner and given to another? They didn’t vis a vis the auto dealerships!

Good debate, thanks!

Thanks ... I try to just write about things I see on a day to day basis.

I think some of the first Obama bills caught people by surprise. People said hey let’s give him a chance. Then came the government rationed healthcare and people said wait a minute. When Krauthammer gets on the side of it’s being done on purpose, the destruction of our economy and freedoms ... Most are beginning to see the light.

I doubt that a vast majority of people want America like Obama sees it. They only came for the freebies he promised but can’t deliver.

Auto dealers aren’t free speech which most Americans understand, so we will see about that. It’s hard for most people to grasp what is actually being done to them while it’s in process.

As to arms, if you see the way the Venezuelan Chavez thugs are beating people in the streets, you wonder how it would be if they were armed. We are a long way from that point, but when we catch up, then the trouble will happen. We surround them, as Beck says.

I hope the radio stations are ready to take them to court because the guy already said he is targeting people by race - he wants to get rid of whitey.
