SNIPPET: "MONTREAL -- Saïd Namouh thought his apartment in Trois-Rivières was an ideal location to plot jihad, far from the prying eyes of anti-terrorism investigators. But the Internet that allowed him to spread hatred from the boondocks also proved his undoing, and on Thursday largely on the strength of his online activity the 36-year-old Moroccan was convicted of four terrorism charges.
Quebec Court Judge Claude Leblond ruled that far from simply exercising free speech, as the defence had argued, Namouh participated with zeal and enthusiasm in the planning of terrorist acts and the distribution of jihadist propaganda. The man described in court as a spokesman for al-Qaeda was found guilty of conspiring to commit a bomb attack in Europe, attempting to extort the governments of Austria and Germany with video threats, participating in a terrorist group and aiding a terrorist activity. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
The court heard that Namouh, who moved to Canada in 2003 after marrying a Quebec woman, was on the verge of leaving Canada when he was arrested. Online conversations showed he was headed for Egypt to meet with co-conspirators in a plot to carry out a terrorist bombing at an unknown location in Europe."

“NEFA Foundation: Army of Islam Issues Message to the Austrian Government”
By Evan Kohlmann
SNIPPET: “The NEFA Foundation has obtained a new communiqué from the Army of Islam in Gaza, in which the group urges the Austrian government to release Muhammad Shawqi Mahmoud from jail. In March 2008, Mahmoud was sentenced to four years in prison for belonging to a terrorist organization. Mahmoud, a central figure in the Global Islamic Media Front (GIMF), was involved in producing a March 2007 GIMF video that threatened Austria and Germany if the countries did not withdraw their troops from Afghanistan. That same month, BBC reporter Alan Johnston was kidnapped in Gaza; the Army of Islam subsequently issued a videotaped claim of responsibility for the operation. During the February 2009 Canadian trial of Mahmouds GIMF co-conspirator, Said Namouh, prosecutors revealed that Mahmoud and Namouh played a major role for the GIMF in the editing of that Army of Islam video.”

Yes and thank you Buckeye McFrog.
good that they catched him in Canada and not extradited him to Austria or Germany. He would never get a life long prison sentence in both countries.
You’re welcome fanfan.

“Al Qaeda Terrorist Gets Life Sentence from Quebec Judge”
by IPT News Feb 18, 2010 at 4:37 pm
SNIPPET: “Said Namouh, a Moroccan living in Quebec, was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday for his role in a plot to bomb targets in Germany and Austria.”
SNIPPET: “”Terrorism is in our blood, and with it we will drown the unjust,” Namouh said in one Internet chat. In another, which occurred shortly before his arrest in 2007, he said his dream was to die a martyr and to have his son - who is 10 years old and now lives in Morocco grow up to be a suicide bomber.
Namouh also distributed ransom demands for the kidnappers of a British journalist in Gaza. He worked with the Global Islamic Media Front, an Al Qaeda propaganda organ.
Namouh will be eligible for parole in 10 years. Last month, Zakaria Amara, who masterminded a plot to blow up Toronto-area landmarks, also received a life sentence.”
