All presidents have periods where they lose popularity. So companies tying their brands to individual politicians are either naive about politics, or they and their ad agencies are run by people suffering from groupthink. Were they all drinking the Obama kool-aid? Had they not considered what might happen when Obama inevitably fell from messiah status to that of mortal politician?

“Pepsi and the Rise and Fall of ObamaMarketing”
13 October 2009 @ 6:22PM
SNIPPET: “From a business standpoint, that seemed a bit risky to me. Big brands usually try to appeal to the widest possible audience, so why would a company like Pepsi risk being seen as endorsing Obama, potentially alienating some of the nearly 60 million people who voted for someone else? Was Pepsi willing to cede the non-Obama vote to Coke?”
I’ve been boycotting Pepsi since they adopted the “O” logo, and I wrote an email and told them so.

Feedback is good and not purchasing a product that disagrees with your values is good also.
I bought a few cases of Pepsi Throwback when it was available. It was the only Pepsi product that didn’t have that stupid logo on it.
As did I. I don't buy much Pepsi anyway, so it's really just a matter of principle.
No Pepsi products for me thanks. Oh, and I’ll pass on the Obama koolaid too.
Oh, Pepsi Throwback does have the logo on its boxes, but not the cans. There’s still a few cases left at particular grocery store an hour away from me, but after I buy and drink those, it’s onto Jones Soda for me. Not as tasty, but at least there’s no high-fructose corn syrup, or zero logos.
Ditto that.
Excellent, although my wife thought the beginning segment deserved a BARF ALERT...

Throwback was a blast from the past. The new stuff doesn't even smell right.
Thank you Hossier Hick.
Mr. Maloney has been walking right in the thick of things for awhile and gets excellent, candid interviews.

I agree. I have avoided Pepsi products since Mrs. Nooyi, Pepsi President, compared the countries of the world to that of fingers on a hand. One guess as to which country was the middle finger.
Too bad, my son loves Gatorade.
I don’t know. It seems like a good fit between Obummer and Pepsi as they are both dark, bubbly, and have no value to mankind whatsoever.
Ive been boycotting Pepsi Boycott Coca-Cola too. The majority of their political donations go to Democrats. (The majority of Pepsi's go to Republicans). Don't accidentally donate to the Donks because you don't like somebody's logo. |
I’ve been drinking Pepsi One with Splenda as a calorie cutter.
Can’t stand diet pop made with aspartame.
Any others using Splenda?
