Surprisingly, concealed carry has a shot

When the city's top cop and county's top prosecutor want to open the door for a concealed-carry gun law in Wisconsin, it seems the writing may be on the wall.

Police Chief Edward Flynn and Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm told a City Hall committee last week that allowing concealed-carry permits in Wisconsin could ultimately make things safer for everyone. Specifically, they said, if the state issued such permits under a tough eligibility process and coupled that with more stringent background checks for all gun purchases, the number of illegally sold weapons could be cut across the board.

The news was surprising. Flynn and Chisholm are usually in concert with Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett on most public safety initiatives, and Barrett has long opposed concealed carry. With the chief and the DA on board, perhaps they will persuade the mayor to change his mind.

These two may be recognizing that this may be the opportuntiy for to get their best deal on gun control.

Give up the inevitable - concealed carry, in trade for greater civilrights restrictions.

The musings of a nit-wit.

“...many law enforcement officers also resist concealed-carry laws because they work on the front lines of combating violence in America.”

Not to take anything away from our LEO’s, but more frequently, it is the common citizen that is on the front line, and the LEO turns up later to take an after-action report.

I am against Concealed Carry for the sole reason that it cedes control of our 2A rights to another governmental bureaucracy interested in making a buck.

Long Live Open Carry!

Long Live Open Carry!

Is open carry even legal in Texas? I thought that was one of the few states which had restrictions!

And it’s not even true that “many LEO’s resist concealed carry laws”. The rank and file often favor them. It’s the higher ups, whose jobs are more political, that don’t care about our rights or about what works.

Yesh, open-carry’s great in Texas....BUT, it doesn’t work too well in the northern US in winter, which lasts about 9 months of the year due to Global Warming.

Wisconsin is one of only two states that don't issue concealed-carry permits to residents; Illinois is the other. Seeing that both states have major cities - Milwaukee and Chicago - where handgun violence is rampant in some areas, perhaps it has been a smart move so far.

How do you even argue with someone this stupid? "People are getting shot left and right, we must be on the right policy track!"

Open carry is illegal in TX.

www.opencarry.org will have more information on it if you are interested. It can also keep you up to date on legislative initiatives.

—same idea as those articles (usually in the east coast press) expressing wonder that “the crime rate is going down, but we still have all these inmates in prison”—

The tactics are exactly what caused us to have gun control in the first place. The anti’s understand if you want something, you ask for it in incremental bits.

All or nothing tactics are suicidal.
