Kerry: Obama may make Afghan decision before Asia trip

Democratic Senator John Kerry said Tuesday he would be "surprised" if US President Barack Obama does not announce his decision on troop levels in Afghanistan before leaving for Asia on November 11.

"I'm just speculating, I don't have any inside scoop on this, but I would be surprised if he wants to leave it hanging while he's out of the country for that long a period of time," said Kerry, a close Obama ally.

The US president leaves Washington on November 11 and remains in the region for eight days, with stops in Japan, Singapore, China and South Korea.

"I suspect the president would probably want to make a decision on that before he goes off to (Asia)," said Kerry, who played a key role in brokering a run-off election in war-torn Afghanistan. "He's got a fairly long trip."

"Let's see where they wind up, but that would be my own gut," said the Massachusetts lawmaker, who chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Obama, who faces mounting criticism that he is dithering on his fateful decision, said late Monday he will not rush to judgment on whether to send tens of thousands more troops to Afghanistan.

Prediction: He will announce a troop increase then visit and get a bounce in the polls from that and the health care bill.

-———————————————————>

Prediction: If he shows up for a visit with the Troops no one’s going to be at the Prom.

I am so livid about Obama’s disrespect for our Troops. They deserve a better CIC.

I wonder if Biden might be resigning soon. I’m sorry for my ignorance but what happens if the V.P. resigns?

“Rumor has it that Barry will apologize to Japan for the nuclear bombing of Hiro and Naga and admit the attacks were war crimes”

Crimes schmimes. They started it.

“But he would have supported dropping the Bomb on Germany!”

We didn’t drop The Bomb on Germany, but we did drop little ones. Lots of little ones. This is what always irks me about the Hiroshima question. What, it’s supposed to be bad because it killed a whole lot of people all at once? Well, sure it did, but it also (along with Nagasaki) ended the war. What about the uncountable tonage of bombs we dropped everywhere else—correction, that every single combatant dropped wherever they could? None of them, alone, made anyone surrender.

Aerial bombing, discounting nukes, slaughtered MILLIONS of civilians. So why are we focusing on two little bombs? Because, like the Rape of Nanking, I guess, we’re supposed to believe it’s bad because its effect was so big. Except in the case of Hiroshima, you can point to all the other aerial bombings with which everyone’s fine and dandy. There is no analogy for Nanking, as everywhere all nations agreed raping and executing innocent citizens on the ground is bad. Kill ‘em from the air, fine. Just don’t you dare land.

Face it, Death From Above is a part of modern warfare. It’s an iffy thing, morally and strategically. But I tell ya, if I had the choice, I’d rather have two cities annihilated in one stroke than live through a full-scale invasion/blockade.

Stewart’s position had no intellectual coherency.

It’s simply feelgood pap driven by an ignorance of history.

Zero needs to get this: You are damned if you do and damned if you don’t.

Just the make the decision. Voting “Present” isn’t an option.

Whatever tac you take, it’s going to make some group mad.

Obama is using Kerry to take the bullets for him over Afghanistan. And Kerry is vain enough to volunteer for the job.

John Stweart is an unfunny, hard-faced, leftist putz. IMHO of course. Loathe his “above the fray” vaneer, the phony!

Kerry is the brown nosing student we all hated in school. The one that wanted to clean the erasers and bring little gifts for the teacher. He really makes my skin crawl.
