What is a shout out? Someone explain please.
It's a greeting or an acknowledgment of someone's presence. Certainly not something that would be appropriate under such dire and solemn circumstances as these.
Casual yet pointed acknowledgement to someone in (or sometimes NOT in, but should be in) a crowd or group. It's like waving to someone or at the camera and saying, "Hi, mom!" before giving your address to the audience.
