Zelaya pulls out of Honduras unity deal

Honduras, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya says he has pulled out of a deal struck to end the country's political crisis.

Speaking to local radio Friday, Zelaya said the deal with the interim government led by President Roberto Micheletti was off as far as he was concerned, The Wall Street Journal reported.

"This deal is dead. The other side has failed to uphold their end," Zelaya reportedly said.

Under the terms of the deal, a government of national unity would be created and the Honduran Congress would be allowed to determine if Zelaya could return to office ahead of planned Nov. 29 national elections, while the United States would recognize the winner even if Congress didn't return Zelaya to power, the newspaper said.

The Journal quoted an unnamed source close to the negotiations as saying that U.S. diplomats failed in a last-ditch attempt to persuade Zelaya to submit names of possible Cabinet ministers to serve in the interim national unity government.

Analysts said Zelaya would like lose a vote in Congress if it came to that, noting they are the same lawmakers who on June 28 voted overwhelmingly to replace him, leading to his ouster.

Now its time to the Honduran army to do their job and go into the Brazilian embassy and drag him out.

LOL Hey, Mel! You’re dead too when you come out of that embassy. Maybe Hillary will come put dead flowers on your grave.

No need, let him stay there. The elections are only weeks away and afterwards he'll be nothing more than a piece of trash in history...........

I think that the Honduran shoud rid themselves of this man as soon as possible. Zelaya’s presence might contaminate the elections.

You do not Zelaya’s goombas causing havoc in the country during elections. You need to kill the head of the snake and the body will die.

Thank goodness this fool won’t be inflicted on the nation of Honduras... We should be so lucky to have a similar scenario.

What I can’t figure out is why all the fuss by the United States to convince Zelaya to live up to a deal when the elections are only 3 weeks away, anyway? The whole thing is very odd.

Zelaya is a man who is mentally unstable. He is actually mentally sick. Remember, Zelaya has been kicked out of numerous nations before ending up in the Brazilian embassy where he is currently holed up. I do not understand why Obama and Secretary of State Clinton are championing the causes of a mentally unstable man.

Honduras Police wearing ski masks to hide their identity. That is the way to handle law enforcement.

Why make him a martyr? Let him sit their in the embassy, stewing in his own juice. It is 20 days until the election. If the Micheletti government can hold out for less than three weeks, they are home free, and he is still stuck in the embassy. If he leaves it, they arrest him. They put him in prison. He has made himself a non-person.
