Mike Doyle gets challenger in PA 14th district.

Bellevue tax collector Joe Nolan, 53, plans to announce today he's challenging U.S. Rep. Mike Doyle, D-Forest Hills, in the 2010 general election.

Nolan, a Republican, said he's "become more and more concerned about the path we've taken," specifically bank and insurance company bailouts, he said. He said he opposes the cap-and-trade legislation, which could come up for a final vote in Congress this year, as being too restrictive of energy production.

Doyle beat Green Party candidate Titus North in the 2008 election 91.3 percent to 8.7 percent. He ran unopposed in the general election in 2006, in an overwhelmingly Democratic district.

I hate to say it but this guy has no freakin’ chance, the brain dead dims in Allegheny county would elect Stalin if he had a “D” after his name.

Doesn’t matter. First, you never know when lightning can strike in politics.

More importantly, it’s past time that these RATS are no longer given a free ride. This “pass” frees them from having to raise money; and it allows them to travel elsewhere to campaign for and finance other RATS.

Make them stay at home, and suck every dollar from every RAT contributor from coast-to-coast. Put them on defense in every district: blue, purple, or red.

This is the answer, people who are willing to jump in and challenge the Socialists. I think we all need to keep working nationwide for the little races as well, back them up.

I worked for some very good candidates in that district over the years and I fear that you are right. That district includes Wilkinsburg, Forest Hills, Squirrel Hill, Swissvale and more. That’s why a Republican won’t win.

you never know. Doyle might rape a nun in broad day light a week before the election. And then if he lies about it and isn’t contrite he could possibly be defeated.

We SO need a challenger in this district, I can’t wait to vote for him.

The main exception I can think of is Dr. Cyril Wecht, who has made enough enemies within the Democrat Party that a substantial number will flip to oppose him.

Not necessarily. For one, I'm not sure Pa 14 is in Allegheny County. The challenger is from Bellevue which is on the I-70 corridor between Washington and Westmoreland County. And this is a positive sign. (Republican wins may mark big change in Westmoreland County)

My bad. Bellevue is on the Ohio River (I was thinking of Belle Vernon, duh), but it doesn’t look like Bellevue is within the district. It is Allegheny County, therefore you are probably correct.

PA 14 is the entire City of Pittsburgh + all the old mill towns along the Mon Valley as far south as Elizabeth and the Ohio Valley to down past Bellview. It has more than enough brain dead rats to keep this clown in congress for life. I think the Republican legislature redrew that district during the last reapportionment to concentrate as many Dems in one district as possible to allow the Republicans to have a fighting chance in the other suburbs.

I did correct myself, but thanks for that info. Probably a good idea (the re-districting thingy). Things are getting better in my neck of the woods (Westmoreland County), so one can always hope, yes?

The PA-14 includes all of Pittsburgh and the Mon Valley. It is ridiculously Democrat, drawn that way by the GOP legislature to make adjoining districts more Republican.

This is the same district Rick Santorum won twice before he ran and won a senate seat and then he exposed himself as a DC elite and lost to caterpillar eyebrows Casey.

"This is the same district Rick Santorum won twice"

No its not, Santorum ran in the southern suburbs, ie Mt Lebanon, USC, Bethel Park, etc. Districts are constantly being redraw, but he never ran in Wilkinsburg or Penn Hills.

Further, Santorum was targeted by the national dims as being the poster boy of conservatives, he eviserated Boxer on the abortion issue and they came after him w/ the supposed "conservative" dimmy Casey.

Santorum was painted as harsh by the msm and the GOP let him die on the vine w/ no support. That's what did him in.

He ran against Doug Walgren. I live in Glassport. Santorum was my congressman until he ran for the senate.
This was Joe Gaydos’s district.

Way to go Smokeyb. Now if we in Indiana County or rather parts of it can get rid of the traitor Murtha we will be on our way to defeat the dims in 2010!!

I just found this posted on FR. I hadn’t seen it earlier.

Joe’s wife is in an online epilepsy support group with me. I’ve never met her because I live in California, but we’ve been in the same online group for over 2 years.

I was very excited when she told me her husband was running for congress and he was a republican.

They are very active with epilepsy groups in the Pittsburgh area, and I think they have a good handle on healthcare reform.

That’s pretty amazingly gerrymandered all right. Funny how it manages to include the worst cesspools in the suburb area of Pittsburgh, like Pitcairn, while avoiding the nearby more upscale bits of Monroeville.
