I wonder what it is smell or do they remember faces? I understand recognizind family who they always see but people that they rarely see?

I love cats. My husband and kids, however, don’t so I haven’t had a cat in many many years. I am a dog lover now.

I do miss how utterly sweet and unjudgemental dogs are...not so much barking, having to be let out, doggie drool...

I’m guessing smell is the better part of it, as blind pets don’t have any issues recognizing someone they know. I’ve had 2 rats who were blind from birth and neither had any issue knowing who was who...and who could be conned out of a treat or an extra scratch behind the ears.

OTOH, one of our cats freaks out *every* time I wash my hands and has to recheck to be sure it’s really me. Doesn’t matter what type of soap I use, or even if it’s just a quick rinse to get crumbs or pet hair off my fingers, he still has to spend several seconds sniffing to be sure, even if I was never out of his sight.
