Katherine Kersten: At U [of MN], future teachers may be reeducated.
Minneapolis Star Tribune ^ | November 21, 2009 | KATHERINE KERSTEN

Do you believe in the American dream -- the idea that in this country, hardworking people of every race, color and creed can get ahead on their own merits? If so, that belief may soon bar you from getting a license to teach in Minnesota public schools -- at least if you plan to get your teaching degree at the University of Minnesota's Twin Cities campus.

In a report compiled last summer, the Race, Culture, Class and Gender Task Group at the U's College of Education and Human Development recommended that aspiring teachers there must repudiate the notion of "the American Dream" in order to obtain the recommendation for licensure required by the Minnesota Board of Teaching. Instead, teacher candidates must embrace -- and be prepared to teach our state's kids -- the task force's own vision of America as an oppressive hellhole: racist, sexist and homophobic.

The task group is part of the Teacher Education Redesign Initiative, a multiyear project to change the way future teachers are trained at the U's flagship campus. The initiative is premised, in part, on the conviction that Minnesota teachers' lack of "cultural competence" contributes to the poor academic performance of the state's minority students. Last spring, it charged the task group with coming up with recommendations to change this. In January, planners will review the recommendations and decide how to proceed.

The report advocates making race, class and gender politics the "overarching framework" for all teaching courses at the U. It calls for evaluating future teachers in both coursework and practice teaching based on their willingness to fall into ideological lockstep.

The first step toward "cultural competence," says the task group, is for future teachers to recognize -- and confess -- their own bigotry. Anyone familiar with the reeducation camps of China's

What if some aspiring teachers resist this effort at thought control and object to parroting back an ideological line as a condition of future employment? The task group has Orwellian plans for such rebels: The U, it says, must "develop clear steps and procedures for working with non-performing students, including a remediation plan."

So what’s keeping “minority” students in Atlanta from excelling when most of the teachers are from the same “culture”?

The “bug” attributable to the mental retardation that has created the Left has become a pandemic.

When they speak of minority students, do they include Asian Americans who always perform well above average?

Guess not.

This is ordinary Communism at work.

No one was allowed to teach anything in the State schools of the USSR or the occupied Warsaw Pact countries that did not hew to the Party Line.

The Communists demand absolute obedience to their frozen, sterile edicts, because they are terrified of losing control when their dogma is challenged.

The schools in Eastern Europe turned out vapid morons who to this day are unable to cope with reality and long for the day when their Keepers will take over again.

And their Keepers are still here, desperate to do so, because like their slaves, they too are unable to cope with reality and keep themselves fed. Without the slaves, and the slave state, they starve.

But under their system, so will the slaves.

And so those they are trying to turn into chattel must see it all clearly and refuse to go along.

The OLD WAY: you work hard. You marry a member of the opposite sex. You earn and save. You buy a house and car. You believe in property rights. You educate your children. They marry and move out and build their lives. You save and enjoy. You retire. Social Security supplements your retirement plan. Medicare covers your healthcare in retirement. You die.

The NEW WAY: you try to work hard but your job is sent overseas. You are unemployed. "Diversity" preferences and cheap laborers illegally fill all the open jobs, and you stay unemployed. You rent an apartment. Your city becomes a crime-ridden hell-hole. You use public transportation. You are mugged and robbed. Your kids get into drugs and crime. They go to juvenile incarceration, then to jail, then to prison. You are on welfare. You get ill and the government decides you are not worth saving. You die.

Time to shut this so-called “academic program” down and fire the administration and faculty.

The OLD WAY: you work hard. You marry a member of the opposite sex. You earn and save. You buy a house and car. You believe in property rights. You educate your children. They marry and move out and build their lives. You save and enjoy. You are a Republican. You retire. Social Security supplements your retirement plan. Medicare covers your healthcare in retirement. You die. Friends and family miss you

The NEW WAY: you try to work hard but your job is sent overseas. You are unemployed. Everybody around you votes liberal. You die alone and no one cares.

If you haven't read John Taylor Gatto's Underground History of Education, why not?

The whole thing is online.

I'm buying a bunch of copies "on dead trees" to give away to young and old, liberal and conservatives, before the next election.

I'm watin’ for employers to just quit hiring graduates from these “universities”. I have heard that most companies have to provide “training courses” that enable these new employees to actually produce a useful work product. Training courses like basic math and English, doncha know!

rhema,
These graduates are hired by the government(councelors, diversity agents, skool teachers, etc. etc. etc.) More and more productive work will be done abroad. These graduates will only be fired on a massive scale when the productive can no longer finance this cancerous growth. This day is fast approaching. Conservatives complain that we are impoverishing our gradchildren. This carries little weight with the pathological narcissists of the left. Conservatives are wrong. The Day may come as soon as tomorrow. Remember how rapidly the Soviet Union fell.

And God help any "educator" who takes notice that Vietnamese boat people's children, whose parents arrived in the US speaking no English, and having no assets other than a willingness to work hard, commonly grew up to be valedictorians.

I’m a teacher. I detest the idea of tenure, but I have it. If this crap makes it to Alaska, expect fireworks. This is not a idle threat. Maybe the nominally socialist fools in the upper Midwest will accept this kind of Soviet indoctrination, but not up here. Never.

Agreed. I personally witnessed that. What a wonderful example of pulling yourself up to success. A close Viet friend escaped from Nam after the fall, got to US, got educated, got good job (and with the langauge barrier). By that time, rest of family could start coming over. He lived frugally to help re-educate brothers and sisters, one at a time. As each graduated (upper to top of class) they fed money back into family to uplift another. Five brothers and sisters are now engineers, doctors and lawyers. Truly what America is all about (should be) and the kind of people we should allow in. They are Christians (Lutherans), as well.
