ASH, N.C. -- Brunswick County Sherriff John Ingram announced in an emailed statement today that he is shifting his political affiliation to the Republican Party.
Ingram could not be immediately reached for comment.
"Though my career in law enforcement as a Democrat has brought me to this place in time," Ingram said in the statement, "it is my humble choice to live as my conservative principles and discipline desire."
I think we’ll start seeing the real Conservatives coming out of the woodwork. They see that the rest of the country supports them, and that empowers them to stand up to the government. Law enforcement should be local in my opinion.
If someone has conservative values, they cannot remain a Dem-o-rat.

There has never a Republican anything in Robeson County, NC.
The only thing this county is first in, is last, and they came in second on that.

His heart is certainly in the right place. I have a feeling that he’ll be disappointed in the republican party too though, if he’s really conservative.

On a serious note, the guy could be legit, but I’ll not hold my breath.
One thing that I’ve noticed (see the map on my About page) about your part of the state (and correct me if I’m wrong) is that there is ZERO talk radio getting out your way, particularly down toward Bladen/Columbus.
That’s why Mike can claim to be a Blue Dawg but vote anyway he wants.

.....could be...his coastal county has enjoyed tremendous growth in the last 20 years....lotta white flight INTO the area...lotta retired quiet money...the old Dem coalition of blacks and populist whites doesn’t have the strength at the polls it once had...our family’s place at Sunset Beach is now surrounded by more year round residents than ever before.
