Former Eagles' offensive lineman Jon Runyan plans to run for Congress in South Jersey next year after finishing this football season with the San Diego Chargers.
Runyan, a Mount Laurel resident who signed with the Chargers Tuesday, said he will run as a Republican in the 3rd Congressional district.
Runyan, who has not been active in public politics, may face a challenge in a district where two Republican-heavy counties have battled for supremacy.

I never liked the Eagles, but I’d vote for this guy.
heh
So he's going to start at the top? Great, just what we need--more celebrity politicians.
It pains me to say this as an Ann Arbor Spartan in enemy territory, but they are probably conservatives. Most white athletes, and even some blacks tend to lean that way outside of basketball or tennis. Football especially. Heath Shuler is the exception, and even he claims to be pro-life.
I can warn you though, he is a Michigander from the birthplace of the union (Flint, MI - GM sitdown strike of the 1930's) and the so-called Republicans (those who have the stones to admit it) are usually liberal, VERY LIBERAL.
Interesting fact: Jon barely paid football in high school. He and his brothers are phenomenal basketball players. Also, he's the only big one of the bunch. They are all tall, but his brothers are scrawny.
Eagles are a great band....
Not really. Filled with libs. Henley is a major jer*off.
dude...why u harshing on my joke?
Why do people think if they are some kind of celebrity they can run for office? Also, why are these people running as Republicans?
Yet he was first drafted by the old Houston Earlers--
What about it, Allegra? Do we... kiss and make up with this guy?
The d-RAT incumbent, John Adler, was able to steal this election in 2008 because he it was an open seat (long time eleven term GOP Congressman Jim Saxton was retiring), the prevailing zeitgeist in the country was anti-Republican, and Adler's GOP opponent went through a grueling primary that split the party. The National Republican Congressional Campaign gave the Republican nominee less than half of what the National Democratic Congressional Campaign gave to Adler, effectively ceding the race to Adler.
If Mr.Runyan can win the GOP primary and cement the Burlington and Ocean county GOP factions he should emerge victorious. It should also be pointed out that Runyan is running as a Republican from Burlington County, a county that makes up over half of the voting population of District 3, and it was this county that gave Adler his victory (Adler won 56% of the vote in Burlington).
Heh, heh...Bender is always angling for putting on his wig and lipstick.
