Yep, 1911 all the way for me. My favorite for years has been the Springfield “loaded”. But I must admit I have been eyeing that new Kimber SIS of late.

Is “Are you still beating your wife?” a yes or no question?

— “Do you believe that the Second Amendment provides individuals with a right to shoot and kill government officials when they deem our government has become ‘tyrannical’?

When the tyrants come to arrest the free citizen for refusing to turn in his firearms, or refusing to pay for health insurance he does not want to buy, then the representatives of the tyrants will be met with armed opposition. There may be a tendency for other like-minded citizens to help fend off the arresting parties. Then there may be escalated efforts from both sides of this situation, of which the armed resistance to tyranny may have a chance to prevail.
And no, I’m not still beating my wife.

— “If one or two individuals who believe our government is ‘tyrannical’ are not enough, how many individuals does it take to make political violence against our government legitimate?

The one or two individuals being threatened with violence by the tyrant are plenty already to RESIST the tyrant with violence.
Still not beating my wife.

— Finally, how would the NRA define government ‘tyranny’? Does having to live with health care reform that one disagrees with constitute being ‘attacked by politicians’?”

When the “politicians” show up armed at the same location as the citizen to force his cooperation with their unconstitutional policy, i.e. forcing citizens to “buy” insurance, (especially if that money can be used to perform abortions or anything else that his “religion” prohibits) that is ‘tyranny’.
The wife is not beating me either.

Modern +P+ 9mm has much more power (520 lb-ft of energy) than the standby 230 grain 45 ACP (400 lb-ft), both of which pack a lot more punch than the 38 Special (310 lb-ft). In fact, the 9mm +P+ approaches the 550 lb-ft of the 357 magnum - and it’s the same diameter bullet (0.357” for the 357 and the 38 Special, and 0.356” for the 9mm - just 0.001” difference).

It’s a potent round! Even the “normal” 9mm is around 380 lb-ft meaning it’s closer to the 45 ACP than the 38 Special. The big benefit comes from having up to 20 rounds (Springfield XD-m), and typically 16-17 (Glocks and the like) in one magazine. And that means that if at first you don’t succeed,

try,
try,
try,
try,
try,
try,
try,
try,
try,
try,
try,
try,
try,
try,
try,
try,
try,
try,
try again! :)

>No, I’m not still beating my wife.

Those are the EXACT words we should use, should acquaintances annoy us with loaded questions like that.

The smarter-on-the-uptake liberals, seeing how quickly they were exposed, would be too embarrassed to continue with the line of questioning. The stupider ones would just make themselves look more foolish and asinine if they press the issue.

And asking me for proper instruction.

Same here, too. And for the first time in my life, I am recommending an M4-clone as a "starter" rifle for first-time owners.

Normally I'd recommend a nice .22 plinker, like a Ruger 10-22. But these are not normal times. I also tell them to forget about a handgun until they are competent with their rifle. I also tell them to make up an "accessory kit" of a dozen mags, and at least a thousand rounds of ammo.

Other people are getting the same advice. When I go to the local indoor range, there is so much empty 5.56mm brass on the floor forward of the firing like, it's hard to spot other brands.

1: If the government is truly tyrannical, what difference does it make how many people believe it to be so? This would have been an excellent argument in favor of disarming the resistance movements in France, Belgium, Poland, Greece, etc., during World War II.

2: There were exactly 56 signers of The Declaration of Independence.

3: Government arrogance is nothing new. It existed since the Pharaohs set free men and slaves to work to build absurd monuments to their most over glorified selves. They used to be called pyramids; now they are called things like “John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport.” Universal health-care by itself is an issue to be decided and reviewed by elected representatives. If it should pass constitutional muster, than so be it. The people are the source of all power in this country.

If the law exceeds the authority delegated to government by the people, and is forced on them anyway, then it is tyranny. The parts about criminal charges against people who refuse to partake in the plan, and denying care to certain classes based on the decisions of bureaucrats, is tyranny in its most obvious form. It is life and death, as bad as the starvation of the Ukraine or the Ghetto of Warsaw. How are we expected to “live with” government health-care when it offers government the power to kill our loved ones, confiscate our fortunes, and imprison us?

The Jews tried to live with forced labor a few decades ago, but most of them didn't live very long. The Chinese tried to live with the Japanese version of government medicine, but the government strapped them to posts and detonated bombs around them so they could cut the Chinese open and see what the bombs had done. These procedures did not involve anesthetics..

The Soviets tried government health-care, too. The jokes about their drunk and incompetent doctors really aren't funny in the light of actual events. Someone might argue that the British have universal health-care and it works just fine. Good. Let them have Cass Sunstein, Bill Ayers, Anita Dunn, and Van Jones.

And they are the first ones on MY “list” come the day anarchy prevails.
>Not going to let them eat my groceries.
>Not going to “loan” them a gun, just to be shot in the back with my own gun.
>Not going to let them compromise my position.
>Not going to let them proliferate.

“The original will do just fine!: Thank you very much.”

The original listed a bill of particulars against King George III. That part might need updating.

I bought a Hi-Point C9 out of sheer curiosity. After seeing multiple threads on gun forums where people argued about Hi-Points, I decided to get one and see for myself. I figured that for the price (I paid $144), I really couldn't go wrong, even if it was a POS.

I took it to the range and ran 100 rounds through it with zero problems, to the surprise of the guy working at the range who told me that my Hi-Point would "blow up in my face". Once I sighted it in, it was right on target. It did have slightly more recoil than I would have expected, especially given that it isn't a light gun. It's not the prettiest 9mm out there, nor is it my carry piece, but it did just fine. My only disclaimer is that I didn't load the mag to full-capacity because I read that it would cause jams until broken in.

I also have a Hi-Point 9mm carbine and absolutely love it.

According to Hi-Point’s own website, the suggested retail price on this right now is $155. Still a good deal. I may pick up a couple as well as one of their carbines, just to have around.

Hi Points and other inexpensive handguns aren't my cup of tea, but the definitely fill a niche. Capitalism in action.

Here's my latest acquisition (yeah, I posted it in another thread...it's fun to show it off!). Mauser model 1934 in .32 ACP.

Look out, you'll now get the Kel-Tec addiction! :) I have a pair of P32s I carry for CCW (the old New York Reload - a second pistol), and I love them. Small (a hair thinner than your P3AT, same length and height), VERY light (12 ounces each - loaded with 8 shots), and I've never had a misfire or misfeed (1500 rounds combined).

My SUB-2000 in 9mm (G17 configuration) is my go-to/bug-out carbine. Tiny when folded (16.5" long - I can hide it under a coat no problem), light weight, massive firepower (a standard 115 grain 9mm from that 16" barrel yields 550 lb-ft of energy, equal to a 357 magnum, and with the 33 round Glock mags you have a lot of those powerful shots), and amazing accuracy (open sites allow you to drop a full magazine into a 2" circle at 50 yards - more than enough for any SD-type work).

The SU-16A is also fun - a really lightweight 5.56mm rifle that folds and doesn't look like the typical "evil black gun". A hoot to shoot, doesn't poop where it eats (piston system), takes the Magpul PMAGs without a problem, and is 1 MOA accurate. But I still want to add an RFB - 26" of 308 bullpup goodness!

I'm waiting for their new PMR-30 to come out - 30 rounds of 22 WMR, and just 19 ounces loaded! Should make a heck of a plinker/trail gun...

Yes, you'll get addicted to their products and one will never be enough! Thankfully, like the Hi-Points, they're very affordable, and like the Hi-Points, they're amazingly reliable, functional weapons. Both are great value, US built firearms.

A home could have a 9mm pistol (High Point C-9 - $110 street), a concealable carbine (Kel-Tec SUB-2000 - $300 street price), and 300 rounds of 9mm FMJ ammunition ($12/50) for under $500. That's a pretty good load-out for a home looking for home/traveling defense for a low price!

If you haven't already, head over to KTOG and find the best site dedicated to Kel-Tecs. It's a good place to learn more about these phenomenal weapons...

Suppressing a yawn here. I worked at the FBI Data Center in West Virginia for two years: October-December, numbers are ALWAYS up for the NICS Instant Check: Christmas is coming, and it’s hunting season.

Two flamingly obvious reasons why Gun sales are up from the previous few months.

And considering that Hunting can put food on the table cheaply, it’s no wonder it’s up, given the current state of the economy. . .

Everyone gets to have their own opinion! Welcome to Freerepublic.

Do you know that when a 600Yd MR-1FC repair center is scaled down for use at 100Yds the "X-Ring" is only 1/2" in Diameter?

I am in full agreement. Also, in the recent case of Honduras it was shown to be possible to restore a Constitution without killing. Perhaps this is beyond the imagination of the Huff Potalitarians.

“...it is war...it is the war of the Democrats against the Baby Boom...who have paid into and now are poised to reap the “benefits” of Social Security and Medicare...it is the war of those who created these fraudulent programs ...which have fleeced 45 years of taxes from the Baby Boom..and never intended to grant them the “benefits” they were conned into allowing to be withheld from their paychecks. It is a personal war...because by hastening them to their graves...they intend to fleece their descendants of their estates.”

Exactly right, hunting season!!!

Although we own several guns already, my wife just bought a new gun last month for deer hunting. No mystery there!

Cheers

It merely the right to the means, it does not justify the action.
