Embattled Athens County, Ohio Democratic Chairwoman Susan Gwinn was indicted Monday on two counts of election-related bribery, special prosecutors announced today.
Gwinn, who last month was charged with six felonies for campaign finance crimes and money-laundering, became the subject of a voter fraud investigation after an email from College Democrats Vice President Kellie Galan surfaced in which students were promised a cash bounty for every voter brought to the polls.
"Remember, if you bring a friend from 4th ward they are more then [sic] a friend, they're 5 bucks!" Galan wrote to fellow College Democrats in the email.
Athens' 4th Ward featured a hotly contested city council race between College Democrat-endorsed incumbent Christine Fahl and Republican challenger Randy Morris. Fahl defeated Morris by a slim 30 vote margin.
Athens GOP County Chair Pete Couladis demanded an investigation after news of the email broke, telling reporters "maybe the College Democrats received a stimulus check to help get people to vote."
"If money was being paid or offered by the College Democrats to college students or anyone else to vote, this is a serious violation of Ohio's elections laws," said Couladis.

If the Dems aren’t cheating, they aren’t trying.
I’m not sure why it’s not legal to pay someone for bringing someone else to a voting booth.
Do taxi companies refuse to take people to the polls because they are getting paid to do so?
If some local GOP representatives are paid to pick up people from residences, take them to the polls, then back home again, is this action illegal?
The transporters are not voting on behalf of the person brought, nor was the person brought getting money, as I understand it.
Look on the bright side, at least these democrat voters were alive...
Oh, I saw this earlier on CNN.

Michael Moore encouraged college youths to buy votes in the 2004 election. Buy them a meal was one of the options.
It’s the way of the Rat.
It is commonplace for Democrats engaging in “knock and drag” efforts to get voters to the polls to use free packs of cigarettes or “walking around money” to bring people in.
I don't understand it either. There are so many laws now that it's become just a matter of which ones the prosecutors want to enforce. There are so many laws, treaties, rules, and regulations that have made things so much of a mess that, IMO the whole system needs to be blown up and started over again.
“The transporters are not voting on behalf of the person brought, nor was the person brought getting money, as I understand it.”
That remains to be seen. At the very least, you can bet that they were “encouraging” people to vote their way, even if the specific bribes are untraceable.
Volunteering to drive someone to vote is legal, probably in all 50 states. Getting paid (not a taxi) is not legal..
Buy them a beer or a bottle of wine.
Lest we forget at least an over the shoulder acknowledgement of the very first radical, from all our legends, mythology, and history
the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdomLucifer.
Jeez people, you DON”T pay people to vote. Is it that hard to understand.
They do it subtly all the time but you can’t do it that blatantly.
They're getting paid for the vote - not the ride.
One car load of 6 people would get paid $5 for the ride. A car load of 6 people would get $30 for the votes.

The problem is not with paying someone for transportation to the polls. The issue is compensating people to cast a ballot.

It’s about time Susan Gwinn got indicted. She might get the book thrown at her because she ran a very dirty campaign against Warren in the Democratic primary last year.
and all we can muster up is zipper-gate
no wonder we are losing it
