While I agree that you and I can pull a few sentences out of the speech to agree with, let’s recall that this man waited months to determine he would send less than 50% of the actual number our commander on the field wanted in the first place. Having cut that number in half to 40,000 so he would have some chance of getting his request honored, Obama even cut that by 25%.
Then there’s the fact that Obama waited until the dead of winter to make up his mind, always a great morale builder for troops in theater.
So what we have here is a CIC saying one thing, then taking tangible actions that do not reflect the facts he recited, and the need he seemed to espouse.
Full numbers will not be in theater until next summer, only one year before they are to be pulled out.
So yeah, nice words.
As for Ron Paul, he’s been mighty strong in his disagreement with fighting our enemies on foreign soil vs New York City, Los Angeles, or parts of our heartland.
Can’t say as I respect that.
I used to have a great deal of respect for Ron Paul. I no longer respect him at all.
It is so easy to create straw men and then knock them down, isn't it? This is not true. He called for issuing a Letter of Marque and Reprisal soon after 9-11 which would have taken the fight to the enemy (namely Al Qaeda). His proposal was rejected by those who rather spend our blood and treasure in nation building. BTW, eight years later, how's that working out?
