Prison-Gate In America's Heartland

Justice: A leaked memo exposes the hypocrisy of those who opposed indefinite detention of terrorists without trial at Guantanamo. For the right price, they're willing to hold detainees without trial indefinitely in America's heartland.

The plan to ship as many as 100 unidentified terrorist detainees from Guantanamo Bay to a little used prison in Thomson, Ill., a sleepy town of 450 people near the Mississippi River about 150 miles west of Chicago, is well under way, according to a Justice Department memo unearthed by Andrew Breitbart and biggovernment.com.

The memo allegedly from Eric Holder's Department of Justice to Defense Secretary Robert Gates, specifies in part: "The Attorney General shall as expeditiously as possible acquire and activate the TCC (Thomson Correctional Center) as a United States Penitentiary, which the Attorney General has determined would alleviate the Bureau of Prisons' shortage of maximum security cell space and could be used for other appropriate purposes ... to accommodate the relocation of (Guantanamo) detainees by the Secretary of Defense."

Illinois officials are sure acting as if it's a done deal. The leaked memo was greeted with enthusiasm by Illinois' senior senator, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, and Gov. Pat Quinn.

"As we have said many times, this move will have an enormous impact on our state — potentially generating up to 3,800 jobs and potentially injecting more than $1 billion into the regional economy," the two said in a statement. "This is an opportunity to dramatically reduce unemployment, create thousands of good-paying jobs and breathe new economic life into this part of downstate Illinois."

Couldn't we just BRIBE the dudes; telling them if they be good and play war no more, they'll get $1,000,000 each; thereby saving ourselves $900,000,000??
