A prison complex 150 miles from Chicago will house Gitmo detainees, the Obama administration will announce Tuesday.
A senior administration official tells ABC News that on Tuesday the administration will announce that President Obama "has directed that the federal government proceed with the acquisition of the Thomson Correctional Center in Thomson, Illinois to house federal inmates and a limited number of detainees from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba."
Thomson Correctional Center is a maximum security prison that opened in 2001 but has never been fully utilized because of state budget issues.
Information from the state of Illinois indicates that Thomson Correctional Center is a Level 1 adult male maximum-security facility comprised of 1,600 cells and eight housing units, none of which are currently used.

I wonder how long it will be before they start complaining about the weather and we provide them with sand and heat lamps?
As expected.
I’m hoping on Day #1 of the Palin Presidency, she signs an executive order re-opening Gitmo and reversing this disastrous decision.
Shoot them in the head and throw them in shallow graves. End of story. I’d be just fine with that .
I say we start a fraud campaign to get them warm clothes and heaters for humanitarian reasons . We can take it to absurdity just to see how many wacko liberals will support us. Lets protest that we want sand shipped to the prison to make them feel at home. Bet we get some stimulus money to pay for it . Im serious we should start a website
/Just sayin', in case of a prison break and all...
This is going to do “wonderful” things for the Jihadist Prison Recruitment Program!!! What an incredibly wise Pres__ent we have in the White House! < /extreme sarcasm >
Barry is not closing Gitmo, he’s just moving it. Now Sen Dick Turban can have his own Gulag as a jobs program. Once the rules get relaxed, like they did for the Shoe Bomber, maybe they’ll have a weekend pass-jobs training program to get more Chicago cab drivers.
Hate to say I was thinking the same thing... Can you just imagine??? A Prison break scenario, and then we’ve got a small army of Jihadists INSIDE the US? Where in the world has COMMON SENSE gone??? I’m sure the residents in and around the prison are just going to LOVE the drop in Real Estate Value that will accompany this as well...
I really hate this. I really, really do.
Can we just wake up from this nightmare? Please??
Just gets worse every day. Hard to even look at the news some days.
I’m curious: are the prison workers SEIU?
Jeeze H Criss... how much money has this dipshit spent on this fiasco? What was wrong with being incarcerated in GITMO? Ah, the politics. I’m glad Wallyworld still sells aluminum bats for the general populus. They’re going to need them.
All I want for Christmas is my P h d!
He is making the United States look weak. He is bending over for the ACLU which set up this fiasco. May he rot in hell for the things he is doing to this country!
Agreed. I honestly can’t even stay and read the news here at FR as long anymore, nor comment as much because I might just lose the sanity I have left if I don’t take these things in small doses! Either that or I might end up having a heart attack! Have to keep a lid on my temper because this is all just such incredible BS (sorry for the ‘swear’, believe me that’s “light” for what words I’d LIKE to use!).
This reckless act could end up costing more American lives than 9/11.
I wonder if the arrogant Kenyan realizes what he has done.
Interesting question... (I don’t know the answer). I also wonder if they’ll get “hazard pay” or something too, in light of working with these “criminals” in comparison to the reg. population in a prison.
Actually, most of the townfolk are happy as can be about this. They think they’re getting jobs and a economic boon to the town. Of course, they will soon realize most of the jobs will NOT go to the locals. What it does for the local economy we will have to see. But I don’t think the majority of them are looking at the big picture at this point. At least that’s not the impression I’m getting from the local tv coverage.
