The price of weeds, tree bark and grass is apparently going up. Treek bark is the staple of the NK diet you know.

In most systems, all this would be prelude to a violent overthrow. North Korea-who knows?

At the least, they won't have the time to do year-end or New Year celebration. Will be pretty busy.

Incidentally, less than a week from now is the 20th anniversary of Romanian uprising(Dec.22, 1989.)

N. Korea is 100% China’s puppet, and China is fully responsible for the sad state of that country. Mao wanted a pliant, weak and “friendly” country on his border, which he could use to occassionaly poke Japan and the USA in the eye. The present generation of Chinese leaders inherited this situation, but future Chinese will pay the price in enmity and strife. For this reason, I can’t understand why China would allow North Korea to develop a nuke - I believe the chance is higher that someday it will be used on Beijing than Los Angeles.

Yes, China is playing the dangerous game which can come back to haunt them later. They earned decades of anger from ordinary N. Koreans. They will hate China more than Japan, despite China's attempt to control over N. Korea.

It shows the limits of a regime whose root is totalitarian.

I think NK has outlived its usefulness. Evidently over 100k people showed up to demonstrate against the new policy. Seems like they are trying to get blood from a turnip.

Despite currency reform

A rose by any other name, i.e. a 100-1 devaluation. In case anyone missed it, North Koreans in misery as cash is culled

From your keyboard to God's ears.

It would be the ultimate irony if at some point in the not-so-distant future, Comrade Chia Pet were to demand that if Beijing does not increase the assistance necessary to preserve the Kim regime, that Beijing will cease to exist.

As silent snickers take place in Seoul, Tokyo and Taipei, lol
