Republicans Take Aim at Deal-Making

WASHINGTON -- Republicans on Monday slammed the provisions Democrats inserted in their far-reaching health-care overhaul bill at the last minute to win over individual senators.

With Senate action now almost certain by Christmas, a battle to shape perceptions of the legislation is heating up, and Republicans are wasting no time attacking it as sullied by backroom deals.

"If this bill cannot pass without the carve-outs and the special deals, what other evidence could we possibly need that this bill is bad policy?" said Sen. Mike Johanns (R., Neb.).

In my opinion this shows the idiocy of the republican party. Why complain about the method the bill was arrived at instead of the unconstitutional content of the bill?

Let me know if you would like me to start a WSJ PING.

Maybe just simply posting articles from the WSJ is enough.

I called my Congressman’s office today and was told the Republicans have been excluded from meetings; RATs have shut down any views other than their own. Congressional Kapos in action. Welcome to 1937 Germany.

Our government has been taken over by the enemies of America, in my opinion.

Washington DC is the nastiest, filthiest, sleaziest, most evil place on Earth.

I wish a plague upon our congress and the White House.

No matter how 2010 turns out, we are now a communists Country and nothing will change that except revolution, and that will never happen. This is how Nazi Germany started, which you are right.

Why not take a play out of the liberal book? Attack, not complain, on both fronts - the method is illegal AND the content of the bill is illegal!!!!

My mother thinks that in the near future there will be sniper attacks on these grifters. She expects it to happen to congressmen and judges. She thinks some group is going to decide wack-a-mole is the only viable form of soft revolution.

I wouldn't do it. I won't fund it. I won't be an accessory before, during or after. But I wouldn't vote to convict on a jury either.

That could work, but the republicans aren't getting the message out, if that's their intention at all, that this bill is unconstitutional. It's not a matter of a tweak here or there, it needs to be thrown out entirely. There are ways to improve health care that don't require the US to become the United Socialist States of America.

If the democrats are discarding the foundation of the United States then the nation has ceased to exist as a valid entity. If that's going to be the way it is, then come out and say the nation is herewith dissolved and we can move on.

Why complain about the method the bill was arrived at ...

Because the general public understands bribery more than "unconstitutional content." That's why!

If the bill is so great, why did Reid have to buy Democrat votes?

The public is likely to conclude that it's just dirty politics that both parties do to get deals done. That's how the democrats are painting it. People will more easily overlook procedure, but if the republicans make it clear and educate those who don't grasp it the entire monstrosity can get tossed...or all the dems can for passing a criminal bill.
