Nigeria on Saturday ordered a top-level probe after a botched attempt by a young Nigerian to blow up a US plane as it was preparing to land in Detroit, a government statement said.
"The Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has directed Nigerian security agencies to commence full investigation of the incident," the statement said.
Information Minister Dora Akunyili said Abuja had learnt with "dismay the news of an attempted terrorist attack on a US airline.
"We state very clearly that as a nation, we abhor all forms of terrorism," she said in the statement.
Abdul Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, was badly burned as he tried to set off a sophisticated explosive device on a Northwest Airlines Airbus A330 carrying 278 passengers and 11 crew as it began its descent into Detroit on Christmas Day.
He was overpowered by fellow passengers and arrested by US security agents on arrival on Friday.
Media reports said Abdulmutallab, who boarded the plane in Amsterdam, had flown to the Dutch city's Schiphol airport from Lagos.
"While steps are being taken to verify the identity of the alleged suspect and his motives, our security agencies will cooperate fully with the American authorities in the on-going investigations," the government statement said.

In a country that is already 50% muslim and growing, good luck. Cross this one off your list of potentially civilized African nations; it’s appearing to be more and more a lost cause with a combination of corruption, AIDS, islamification, etc. A cauldron set to boil hotter.
From the nervous tone of that statement, it sounds like Nigeria got Bush’s message that we’ll get you, no matter if you are a terrorist or a nation that harbors them.
They may not realize that the rules have changed.
They probably want to find out why the weapon didn’t ignite properly so they can make corrections in the future.
Wow, does that headline imply that Nigeria was behind the attack, or what?
Why we even let any muslim on a plane.
Nigeria orders probe into failed US plane bombing

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. *snort*
The father of the terrorist reported his son to the US authorities in Nigeria 6 months ago.
A source close to him said he was surprised that after his reports to the US authorities, the young man was allowed to travel to the United States.

Uh oh, wrong country to be doing a probe.
LOL. OK.....maybe they can start with how does a guy on the "NO fly list" get to fly? Maybe they can answer that.......
They’ll probably do a better job than Napalitano’s merry band of jerkoffs.
Just send social security number and bank account info. and investigation will begin immediately.
Sad, we will have to depend on Nigeria for our security now as I’m sure Obama will hurry to sweep this under the rug or minimize the failed attack.
If not that, look for him to boast of how effective HIS policies are over Bush’s.
Yes, it's bad for business.
Now, onto another subject:
"Dear Friend,
Before Abdul Farouk Abdulmutallab left on his failed misson, he deposited $500,000,000 in diamonds with us..."
... as the racist in chief hits his bong with the homeboys in HI.
LLS
We let them on the planes but we cant really target them for inspection because they will piss themselves, call CAIR or the ACLU and win a million bucks in lawsuits. Instead we will put old white ladies thru the inspections along with babies, old men and other people who only want to get where they are going alive.
Muslims have it so easy. When you even feel slighted, just run to a camera and cry.
I can see the letter to zero now:
Dear President Obumbler:
We were sorry to hear of the misfortune your poor countrymen have recently suffered at the hands of one of our citizens and would like to help. However, before we can assist we need you to send us 5 billion US dollars so that we can secure the necessary components needed. We stand ready and able to do all that we can, however we do need these funds immediately before we can proceed. We look forward to helping in this matter.
Sincerely,
Nigeria
Nigeria’s AIDS rate is lower than other African countries and this is the first incident of a terrorist attack by a Nigerian.
