Showing a 15-point lead for Democrat Martha Coakley, a Globie poll that had become the worst-kept secret in town was finally published in today’s paper. Once again, UNH was its partner.

While other surveys showing a horse race with Republican Scott Brown could prove optimistic, we know The Globies can’t be trusted and are up to their usual tricks...

The leftist Globe poll is a voter supression propaganda, so don’t fall for it.

Top heavy with ‘rats, few Republicans, fewer Independents.

They also use the weakest version of ‘likely voter’ I’ve ever seen—only excluding those who absolutely won’t vote, including those in a ‘may vote’ category.

Yawn. They will recount until they have the numbers. Just like Franken. There is an impostor in the Senate and the GOP did nothing about it. Why should we get excited about this when we can’t count on the Party’s help?

Steele and the hierarchy should be all over MA- press conferences daily, buying lunch, be camped out in Boston, pouring every last dollar into the Commonwealth. Instead, they are squabbling over the Chairman’s book.

Sorry, but that is how we got into this mess..

Oh, I hope Democrats all over the state believe that poll!! They'll be less likely to get out into the cold, etc. to make it to the polls.

Scott Brown's voters, on the other hand will be even MORE motivated, just so the can stick it to the Glob, and the Democrats for whom they slavishly labor. We're also going to be fired up by the Democrats' reported machinations about trying to delay Scott's seating in the Senate, so that his vote won't threaten Obamacare. If that transpires, I believe the citizens of MA have real cause for a lawsuit, because we will be being denied our ELECTED representation in Congress.

Deval Patrick, and the Democats were hot to trot to appoint Paul King, bleating that MA should have representation in Congress. But it sounds like, if Scott wins, they're going to try to deny us the Senator WE elected, for the opposite reason. They don't want OUR voices to be heard in the Senate.

From PPP (the pollsters showing Caokley behind by 1) Their results (see below) show that those who plan to vote contain 16% more of those who voted for Obama, compared to 26% more Obama voters in 2008:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 9, 2010 INTERVIEWS: DEAN DEBNAM 888-621-6988 / 919-880-4888 (serious media inquiries only please, other questions can be directed to Tom Jensen)
QUESTIONS ABOUT THE POLL: TOM JENSEN 919-744-6312 Senate Race Competitive Raleigh, N.C. – The race to replace Ted Kennedy in the US Senate is looking like a toss up, with Republican Scott Brown up 48-47 on Martha Coakley. Brown is benefiting from depressed Democratic interest in the election and a huge lead among independents for his surprisingly strong standing.
Those planning to vote in the special election only report having voted for Barack Obama in 2008 by a 16 point margin, in contrast to his actual 26 point victory in the state.
That decline in turnout from Obama voters plagued Democratic candidates for Governor in Virginia and New Jersey last fall. Beyond that 66% of Republicans say they’re ‘very excited’ about turning out while only 48% of Democrats express that sentiment.
Brown leads 63-31 with independents and is winning 17% of the Democratic vote while Coakley receives only 6% support from GOP voters. Both candidates are relatively popular, with 57% viewing Brown favorably to only 25% unfavorable and 50% with a positive opinion of Coakley to 42% negative.
Those folks planning to vote in the special election are actually opposed to Obama’s health care plan by a 47/41 margin and only narrowly express approval of the President’s overall job performance 44/43.
“The Massachusetts Senate race is shaping up as a potential disaster for Democrats,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. “Martha Coakley’s complacent campaign has put Scott Brown in a surprisingly strong position and she will need to step it up in the final week to win a victory once thought inevitable.”

I agree, this could backfire on the Dims. The anti-government sentiment is so strong and the frustration is so great that people will go out and vote no matter what the last propaganda poll states.

Rasmussen (who is much more reliable) has Scott at 48% and the dem at 47%.

Of course, we know that if it’s NOT close, they cannot cheat.

Let’s hope the people of MA are sufficiently fed up with the dems.

That’s what I’m saying; let them print polls like this and cause the Dems base to think their vote doesn’t matter and stay in the crack house and not go to the polls.

“Martha Coakley’s complacent campaign has put Scott Brown in a surprisingly strong position and she will need to step it up in the final week to win a victory once thought inevitable.”

Seems Martha thought that she could just stroll into this office, once she beat all those Dem men in the race. Maybe she thinks that, as a woman, she's more deserving of a win. I hope she's REAL disappointed on Jan. 20th. ;o)

Note that PPP is nowhere near the other polls, but many of them are 2 to 4 months old. Of the 3 recent polls, Rasmussen (1/4) is about halfway between Boston Globe and PPP. Like you, I'm hoping that PPP has it right. Even if Brown Wins, Deval Patrick will stall certification until Obamacare passes, but a Brown win would be great news anyway.

Poll Date Sample Coakley (D) Brown (R) Spread
PPP (D) 1/7 - 1/9 744 LV 47 48 Brown +1
Rasmussen 1/4 - 1/4 500 LV 50 41 Coakley +9
Boston Globe 1/2 - 1/6 554 LV 53 36 Coakley +17
Suffolk 11/4 - 11/8 600 RV 58 27 Coakley +31
Western NE College 10/18 - 10/22 342 LV 58 32 Coakley +26
Suffolk 9/12 - 9/15 500 RV 54 24 Coakley +30
