Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has announced plans for the deployment of new Russian-made tanks and combat helicopters on the border with Colombia, RIA Novosti reported. Ties between Venezuela and Colombia deteriorated last August after Washington signed a deal with Bogota allowing U.S. forces to run anti-drug operations from Colombian bases. Chavez has criticized the deal and called for the Venezuelan people and army to prepare for a war.

Colombia is 'highly vulnerable' in case of Venezuelan attack: report

Colombia's military is not prepared for a possible attack by neighboring country Venezuela, a classified government report leaked to newscast CM& says.

According to the report, Colombia does not have the military capacity to defend itself if its neighbor decides to attack.

The two countries' relationship is under a lot of pressure following a U.S.-Colombian deal that allows the American armed forces to use Colombian military bases and airports to fight drug trafficking. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called the plan a threat to Venzuelan sovereignty and ordered his countrymen to prepare for war, while increasing the number of troops near the Colombian border.

I guess I should have said “refer to above” but those who have seen the A-10 in action knew the last step. That was during the Gulf War when they had no capabilities for night vision combat other than looking through the soda straw view from their maverick missiles.

They have been resurrected from a long vacation at the Davis Monthan bone yards to refitted with advanced avionics and full night vision combat capabilities. Now the warthog is a night stalker.

Venezuela to reinforce troops on Colombia border with Russian tanks

Well, if Nobama is prepared to show some cojones in The Western Hemisphere...
and distribute plenty of Javelin missle systems to Columbian troops...
I just pray we send enough videographers to capture the total
annhihilation of Hugo’s Russian tank contingent.

Well, at least the Russian tanks he loses before wisely RETREATING.

AND: http://www.foreignpolicydigest.org/Americas/December-2009/bronwen-de-sena.html

Think “HOGO” dares to attack one of those bases? I don’t!

DEVELOPMENTS

The United States and Colombia have finalized a deal that will allow U.S. military access to seven Colombian bases for the next ten years. Both parties have insisted that the agreement reinforces an existing partnership fighting regional narco-trafficking; however, very few of the terms have been released, garnering policy-makers’ suspicions and regional accusations. At stake may be U.S. aid standards founded on humanitarian and legal bases, as well as U.S. legitimacy in a pocket of the world growing increasingly resentful of historical U.S. hemispheric hegemony. After the announcement of the deal’s conclusion, Latin American leaders and policy-makers officially condemned the move; and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez dramatically declared at a meeting of the Union of South American nations that “winds of warfare” were blowing across the continent.

The deal centers on the construction of an air hangar at Palanquero, Colombia’s central air force base, with $46 million set to fund the endeavor...”

Don’t need Warthogs. A Bradley (call it the ultimate all weather system) can brew up a Russian tank with a single shot from the Bushmaster cannon.

Soviet armor, building death-traps since 1941....

Been to Venezuela, never Colombia, but I don't think either country qualifies as ideal tank country.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but tanks need room to maneuver, if they bog down in jungle country roads, they are vulnerable.

Interesting. Colombia has a highly skilled military. Venezuela doesnt but has a lot of Cuban trained terrorist.
Colombia doesnt have any friends close and is surrounded by Chaves lackys. And Colombia’s biggest enemy, obama and all breathing Democrats, will surely aid Venezuela either in secret or right in the open.
