Fresh details emerged today of the backroom dramas as Sarah Palin alarmed her campaign managers with a string of gaffes during her run for vice-president in 2008.
Race of a Lifetime, a new book by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin which is serialised in The Times this week, reveals that advisers to John McCain were taken aback by how little Mrs Palin knew about politics and history when she was confirmed as Mr McCain's Republican running mate after a cursory, 12-hour selection process.
"You guys have a lot of work to do," Steve Schmidt, Mr McCain's campaign chief, is said to have told the experts he had recruited to tutor her. "She doesn't know anything."
Heilemann and Halperin write: "Palin couldn't explain why North Korea and South Korea were separate nations. She didn't know what the Fed [the Federal Reserve] did. Asked who attacked America on 9/11, she suggested several times that it was Saddam Hussein. Asked to identify the enemy that her son would be fighting in Iraq, she drew a blank. Later, on the plane, Palin said to her team: 'I wish I'd paid more attention to this stuff'."

I don’t believe any of this is true but clearly this is the template the left has and will keep using to destroy her. She has to agressively debunk a lot of these myths by some serious policy speeches at serious venues. The narrative of her as “dumb” has stuck with a lot of people and she has to change that image. Her gig on Fox may help with this. I support Palin a 100% but the way the electoral math works she needs to pick off the independents and some democrats to win and this is her big challenge. I think she is up to it, she has debunked many lies before.
The Brit rags are really going to town on the Sarah stuff and pretty much glossing over the lib trash...real indication they still harbour love for The One and libbie thought...will never learn their lesson until they are totally socialist...

Me too. I’m interested in the core values of a politician - the missing knowledge can be learned. I don’t care how “educated” or capable the man is if his motives are wrong.
You’re so right. I don’t believe any of these “quotes”. Just listen to her speak and you know these morons are liars, too. McLame had no idea how popular Sarah would turn out to be, or he wouldn’t have chosen her. She overshadowed him from the first moment and she’s the only reason I voted Republican without holding my nose.
A lot of it is regurgitated nonsense from the campaign trail. There’s nothing new or revealing here. This is more of the same crap that was distracting the McCain camp in the final push of the campaign. They spent their days trashing Sarah and her family, than attacking Obama’s policies.
Before you Palin haters bad mouth Sarah Palin and her lack of knowledge, I suggest you do some research on POTUS Barack Hussein Obama, who knows little or nothing of overall American history, other then the “Hate America” mantra fed to him by his idols and mentors, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, terrorist American hater Bill Ayres and communist Saul Alinsky!!! Case in point, Obama believes that Hirohito (Emp. of Japan) surrendered to General Douglas MacArthur ending WWII in the Pacific theater. Fact is, Japanese diplomats signed the surrender documents in front of MacArthur on the Battleship Missouri, anchored in Tokyo harbor!!! Here’a one for you Obama lovers, ask Obama who Daniel Morgan was and what happened at the “Cow Pens”?
If Sarah did not know what the Fed does, she is right in line with about 300 million other Americans, starting with the guy in the Oval Office. Not only that, the guy in the Oval office right now is waging an all-out court battle to help make sure the American people never find out what the Fed does.
Betcha she wouldn’t have said 57 states...
Maybe Sarah doesn’t know history but she knows geography...and knows the US has only 50 —NOT 57—states!
Good point about Fox. Sarah knows how to campaign, no doubt about it. Perhaps she realizes she needs to attack this misconception, and Fox is a good place to do it.
